Has anyone heard of Bear meat tasting badly if they are fattening up on salmon ?, someone is telling me that the meat is quite distastful because of it as opposed to a bear on the berries

with the current temps you think they will still be up quite high in the mountains ?

with the current temps you think they will still be up quite high in the mountains ?Nope, the bottom line is find the feed. The berries up high will be gone and bears should be foraging for food before they hibernate.Drive the extra hour or so to Boston Bar or up the Coq.,rather than concentrating all you'r efforts in Chilliwack.
Squamish or even Harrison should also produce.
Good luck.

yes bear eating fish does tast like fish, i did one up last year for someone into peperoni, and they asked if i smoked in in the smoker after doing fish, i have never done fish in my smoker, the bear smelled and tasted like fish,, was very bad tasting,,, tossed it all out..

For the same drive time, you could be hunting the Coq. With your dad's handicap you mentioned, its much easier country to hunt.

I have shot bears near salmon streams exactly at this time of year (first one was in 1976) when the banks were littered with bear droppings that were blue with salal berries and they tasted fine.

Right now they haven't been eating enough salmon for the flavour to enter their flesh.

Harrison bears are probably already chowin on the fish too. The little stream at twenty mile bay is packed with them. Saw 2 bears lurkin around the hatchery by Weaver as well.

Edit: Rough time of year for bears IMO, but if you find a berry patch somewhere with some let me know.;)
