Had an opportunity to go and look at the resident BC sheep tag holders ram last night:smile:. Another monster California Bighorn gonna bump the standings in the BC records Book that's for sure. Score figured around 183-185. And believe me it's all of that:shock:. My kid brother was with the tag holder when he shot the ram and has some awesome field photo's. Will post when I get some pics! Sorry Boys! >RAMSHOT

Help me out here. The Premiere's tag went unsold this year and the resident tag holder didn't mention to me any interest in Cali's, so...??

Is this then the non res or res KIB sheep draw?

Is this the tag that gets autioned for the KIB lands? It would be the Private Landowner Enfranchisement Program permit, auctioned off yes.
There is also a LEH sheep permit for resident hunters on that herd.

Not to be confused with the Premiers tag auctioned by WSF or the Special Sheep Permit lottery for BC residents, both good for almost any sheep in BC

That tag would have been for next season. They're giving the winners(at least the resident) more time to prepare.....IIRC...

The pics that we're still waiting for is the Resident Special Sheep Premier's draw. Decided to hunt Kamloops Lk. this year. This hunt would have been drawn last year. Hunt was this year.

Funny....buy a "few" Special Sheep applications and your odds are probaly better than putting in for the reg Kamloops Lk LEH:?.

resident permits are by LEH or Special Sheep lottery, no auction

Sorry about that! Have been chasing monster mulies but that's a whole new thread;). Still waiting from my brother on getting a picture of the resident premier sheep tag ram! He was there with him when he took a monster California bighorn off Kamloops Lake! The picture's I posted were of the non-resident auction tag winners ram for the South Thompson sheep herd. Taken November 1st. Sorry about not clarifying. Will round up a picture of the Kamloops Lake ram as soon as bro gets back in his office!

Actually we were told that the Ministry does not want the "Premier's Tag" phrased used at all but since many of the states have "Governors tags" for auction the monikor has stuck.

I suspect that the Premier's office didn't want any political fallout from the tag since the animal taken sometimes makes the newspapers.

It's actually called the "Special Mountain Sheep" or "Special Roosevelt Elk
Permit."

All I know is that I haven't bought a single tag ever since they started moving the deadline timeline away from the regular LEH timelines.

Fallout ? I would bet The Premier is unaware that the permit even exists ? :)
It does deserve a better monicker than Special Mountain Sheep or Special LEH Sheep. But then again, if it is only temporary ........

How about the Kluane tag this year that went for just over $300,000 and the guy took a 167" ram.

How about the Kluane tag this year that went for just over $300,000 and the guy took a 167" ram.

A guy at work went antelope hunting this year and while there talked to the brother of the guy with the Kluane tag. Least that is how I think he mentioned it. Details might be different but he talked to the brother of the guy who took the ram. It scored 169" even though there was a few rumors earlier this year that it only scored 159".

When he bought the tag and talked to the guides etc from that area they said right now a 170" ram was as good as ram as there is in that area. Yes there was some big rams killed there but he was told going into the hunt that a 170" ram was a great one and he should take it as anything bigger would be next to impossible. He decided a 170+ ram would be good enough to shoot. They hunted hard and found the ram he got. They all figured it would go 170 or slightly over. He agreed to shoot it and they ended up being off by a few inches.

Apparently the talk of going up there and getting 180+ Dall is getting out of hand. They just simply do not exist in the numbers people think when they talk about that area and that tag.

Of course take this as far as you want to believe it is true. I can only tell you what I was told this week after he returned from his antelope hunt. By the way...his buck missed BC by 2". It was his first ever antelope hunt so too bad it did not make the book. Very nice buck either way you look at it.

I went through Kluane quite a few years ago... I remember looking at a band of rams from the little kiosk at the lake, My dad was with me and there were several rams that would have gone 170"+ no problem. This was 14 or 15 years ago. I do remember those rams though!
