Finally ! After 25 YEARS of hunting I finally shot my big mulie.

Talk about a looooong drought. I could never quite put it all together. But thats all in the past.

Here's the story...

I have been hunting the same area fairly hard this year and helped Dad take his 2x2 mulie. We have been seeing LOTS of does every day but just small bucks. On sunday I was getting out of my truck just as it was getting light out when my old neighbour came around the corner on his quad. We talked about the area and what we have been seeing. I told him I would be happy with ANY 4 point. He said he would go above me on the skidder trail to push any deer their down. I only saw 1 doe and 2 young deer below me when I heard his quad coming towards me. I looked thru my binos to see him waveing at me to come up to him. I grabbed my gun & fanny pack and off I went limping (I had surgery 2 weeks ago on my knee) up the hill to him. He had seen 10 does and a 4 point buck at only 10 yards. I guess the buck did not want to leave his does. We went up the road as fast as we could to the skidder road and slowly putted in. We get to the spot where he saw the deer and they were still there http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/happy/happy0045.gif. The buck was in the heard of does. I made sure he had 4 points on 1 side. Picked my shot. And BANG !!! Down he went. It was not the longest shot I have made, just 25 yards .

I love it when a plan comes together.

wow, deer must really be plentiful in that neck of the woods if you can chase at them with a quad and still come back to shoot it at 25 yards :S

Congrats ... good job :)

Get this.

My old neighbour took his daughter (second year hunting, she's 11 now) to the same spot . She shot a 5x4 mulie within 50 yards of where I got mind. Ya think this spot is good ? Well he also to a buddy to the same honey hole a he go a huge 2 point.
All bucks were taken within a 100 yard radius.

Guess where I'll be hunt my mulie for some years to come ?

PS. He has seen bigger bucks in the same spot. I'll try to get photos of his buck from last year.

Way to go 300! Nice muley. I'm sure the next will be a lot less than 25 years.

Nice to know that some deer like to stand around on occasion...last night I had a nice whitetail buck blow me off at 80 metres in the timber because I moved my knee a bit...jeesh!

Thanks guys.

It was a long time coming. But well worth the effort.
I have learned a lot by my mistakes. Who knew you should not be rattl'n antlers the end of Sept. Or using Tinks 69 lure in early Oct.

A couple things that I did right...joined this site, bought Jim Shockeys video on white tail hunting (still hunting pays off BIG TIME), kept my mouth shut & listened to other hunters, but I think the biggest was I now hunt where there is deer ! I know it sounds stupid but when you have nobody to show you, one area looks as good as another.

Im taking a newbie out for his first whitetail Nov. 08. His wife is away so he is free to go. I have a spot where I always see smaller bucks (2/3/4 points). It's time to payback the help I've received from so many.

Good luck all and remember...AIM SMALL, MISS SMALL.
