Since the weather is so warm we boned out the deer we got on saturday and ended up with 75 lbs of meat. Lets see how good everyone is a guessing weight, this buck was a big bodied 4x3 (not a of any size compared to Kirby's). He was running flat out in front of me going to the right at a slight angle, I clipped his right shoulder blade at the back which tumbled the bullet up to his spine where it bounced off and went into the very front of the left shoulder comming to a rest just under the hide. Gun used is a Tikka 30-06 with 160 grain Remington PSP distance was 281 yards. We did have some spoilage (of course) inboth front shoulders....

What is your gues to live weight of this animal....

It's usually just a bit more than double. I guess 205 lbs.

I've found that boned out, and trimmed up butchered weight to be about 25% of live weight on a deer, so considering some loss to bloodshot I'm gonna guess around 320lbs on the hoof.

I'd say between 190-210. Hard to say without knowing about the damaged meat.

I vaguely recall reading somewhere that bone mass is approx. 60% of total weight. So 75lb of meat plus waste and innereds...lets say a total of 120 lbs of non-bone weight multiplied by 1.60....loose anyone yet...equals

192 lbs.

Now would everyone in the class please have thier permission slips signed for tomorrows field trip to the rifle range:grin: .

Everyone is very close on their guesses...I felt it was 200-220 range...Firebird was dead on with his last guess, it sure felt like 500lbs by the time I got it out of the slash:?
