So, this friday I have no school and what better way to spend it, than in the alpine! My dad wants to get his first buck so were gunna try. I have been up there twice, once in september and once in august. I have only seen 2 does the first trip and some tracks in the summer. What do you guys think? look promising? I have seen tracks so I know there are a couple hanging around, but I just cant seem to find them! Its around 9000 feet, so there will be some snow but im thinkin no more than 1-1/2"

If there is snow, look for tracks. If there are none there then there are not any deer around. Secondly, we are just coming off a full moon. The deer will have been really active. They will probably be laying low. If you are hunting Blacktails, the pre rut will be starting. Think where the does are. That is where the bucks will be. Get up early, as the show is usually over by 1030. I forgot to add. Some areas just don't have that many deer or any deer or any bucks. If you aren't spotting many or any then try somewhere else. Some areas have more deer than others. www.backcountryhunting.net covers some of this stuff check it out.

If your'e in Chilliwack and your SPOT is anywhere within 2 hours of the coast you'll be into snow. 4-6 inches called for tonight on the Coq. Personally if I was you I'd go in a heartbeat!!

If it is up the Coq, you must be hunting alpine mulies? Being from Chilliwack Alpine is familiar territory? Those look like sweet spots. Make sure when you are still hunting through those meadows to check the bases of the trees. When the weather gets poopy, wouldn't you want to hunker down under there?

If there is a big dump of snow in there if the mulies are there you will know.

There tracks should be there in the snow if not they have to be lower down just on the edge of the snow line.
Good luck on your hunt.

Ok, well it sounds like there will be more snow than I thought. I am still willing to go, I can even pack my snowshoes if needed, but I know there was deer up there. would they still stay in the snow? or am I better off just hiking some slashes lower down?

I'm with Wayne here. If you don't see tracks in the snow don't get discouraged because they aren't everywhere at once. It could be a day or two before they cross any particular spot. Just have to be there at the right time. As long as feed is accessible there is no reason yet for them to go down too far.

Looks like beautiful country by the way

Ditto.

It need's to turn into hell frozen over before some will move out. It shouldn't take long to figure out what's goin on..

Can't see in the pic, but I attached a hook to the upper frame and a string loop on the bottom to carry the rifle.http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd75/ElectricDyck/IMG_0458.jpg
