I was just looking through the synopsis and noticed they now include doves and pigeons as upland game birds (page 5 - in green type) which would mean all you need is your basic hunting license. This contradicts the definition for migratory game birds (page 3 - Migratory Game Birds) that you require a Migratory Bird Permit to hunt band-tailed pigeon and morning doves.

Does anyone know which is correct?

For the species listed as upland they're probably referring to the Rock Dove, which is the actual name of our common "park" pigeon. The band-tailed dove looks similar to the rock dove.

So do you have to have a migratory game bird hunting licence, as they are migratory game bird?

You need the migratory licence (federal one) to hunt any migratory bird not limited to waterfowl, migratory upland birds (band tails), coot, snipe, etc.

I was asking the same question yesterday and found the answer in the regs... slightly hidden but there.

Good thing I didn't head out thinking my BC hunting licence would cover them... it doesn't.
