I want to first thank everyone for all your positive energy given in support to me as I recouperated from my surgery and set back before my trip was able to happen.

so here we go:

Day 1
October 15, 2008
Chris pulled up to our house at 2:30 and began loading Peter’s dirt bike to his truck and brought our quad out of the garage to load onto the trailer. When Peter arrived home from work he began loading our gear and cooler into the truck. Azshia arrived home from work and quickly showered and was out the door to help load. I had prepared all the food and gathered all the clothing and bedding earlier throughout the day so I watched everyone load. We pulled out of our driveway at 4:00 and started the trek up to 100 mile house. Chris came in his own truck as his mother in law is gravely ill and he would be calling home each evening to see if he had to go home. Having his truck with us turned out to be a good thing as you will find out as I fill in the details of our hunting trip.
We stopped at the Canyon Alpine to eat supper (was very very lousy this time). The guys were really looking forward to my meals after that one. We arrived in 100 mile at about 9:00 and did a quick fuel up before heading through Forest Grove. We made it into the cabin at 10:15 pm and unloaded, started the wood stove and hit the hay after the guys had a couple wobbly pops to say “here we are”.

During the drive we saw a total of 8 deer along the road and three very exploded ones. As we pulled into the cabin, Azshia saw our friendly neighbour Canim (the fox).

Day 2
October 16, 2008
Chris set the alarm for 5:30 am. I got up and made coffee and oatmeal as well as lunches for the days hike. Azshia loaded her fanny pack with our necessities for the day and the guys did their packs. We pulled out at 6:30 and headed to our sweet spot from past years and waited until 7:00 am before heading in as it was just starting to be light enough. We drove in as far as we knew we could go and saw that someone had set up a beautiful wall tent camp. Definitely quading as they had a great set up and we gave in to pouting as we didn’t want to over take their spot. Chris made mention that the truck looked like his neighbour’s and he knew he had a draw for the same time as us. We drove back down the road to another great spot we have had success in and Peter unloaded the quad and Chris unloaded the dirt bike. I went for my first ride on the quad doubling with Peter and Azshia was doubled by Chris to a place for Azshia and I to set up for a while. The guys head off into the bushes and Azshia and I sit, hope and wait for a moose to show its antlers. We sat in this spot for 2 ½ hours and never so much as saw a bird. Disheartened we eat a little lunch then pack up and head back out the road to meet up with they guys. Azshia and I decide we want to do a little road hunting so the guys hook up the trailer to Chris’s truck and they continue their hunt. Now bear in mind, neither Azshia nor I have ever hunted without one of the guys with us so this was going to be a female adventure. Off we go with Peter’s truck and our .22 for grouse, my BSA 270 and Azshia’s .308. We ran into an elderly hunter along the drive and he looked at us like we were aliens (two females in a truck, hunting. We said howdy and passed on some good giggle and drove some more. We saw our first grouse of the day, after it flew across the road and onto a log. Azshia missed it by a hair (oops). We decided to go back out onto the main road and explore another FSR. We head onto one and drive for about 30 minutes and decide to turn around and head back, when we noticed some deer tracks all over fresh where we had just driven. So we take it a little slower hoping to spook out a nice mulie buck. Nope, not a lucky day for us. Heading back to the other FSR where the guys are we spot another grouse and this time BAM Azshia got it. Thinking we are pretty cool, doing this on our own. We know the guys are probably at the wall tenters camp by this time so we head up there and pass a surveyor in his truck and he says the moose are there we just have coax them. Sure enough we see Peter and Chris on the road and low and behold it is Chris’s neighbour. It has started to snow quite a bit now so we decide to head back to cabin and the guys will meet us later. We do a little more grouse hunting along the way back but get no more but the one for the day. Back at the cabin I begin supper and Azshia gets the generator going and we relax. The guys get back at 7:00, soaking wet from snow and downpour of rain (Cariboo weather). Sitting down for a supper of; chicken, rice, mixed vegetables. After we eat, Chris and Azshia do dishes and I make the lunches for tomorrow and by 9:00 pm we are all in bed.

No moose to hang.

Day 3
October 17, 2008

The guys get up at 6 am this time so I am up making coffee and getting their oatmeal organized and their lunches (made the night before). Azshia and I are going into 108 Mile for the morning to visit my Mom and have lunch with her. After our visit with Mama, we are going to do some more road hunting and check out the spot we found yesterday again. The guys plan was to take the boat and head to the other side of the lake in the area to see how things fare from the other side. When Azshia and I are heading back down the highway towards 100 Mile we see there is a road block and traffic is backed up. Lots of D.O.T. vehicles and R.C.M.P. checking vehicles with trailers and hunting rigs. The never stopped us and we looked so redneck and backwoods in our camo gear. So we go on through the road block and turn down the resort lake roads to head back to the cabin and start our day hunting. About 3:00 we head on in where the guys are hanging out and we catch up with them and they are looking discouraged and dog tired. We let them know where we are headed and tell them we will meet them back at the cabin. It was a beautiful day to at 8 degrees. Azshia and I do a little more exploring and road hunting. We headed back towards the cabin as it was starting to get dark and I had to start supper. Just as we are about 1 km from the cabin we see 2 grouse and Azshia shoots one, the other flew away. So far us ladies have 2 grouse. We tend to be a little competitive at times so Azshia decided to hang the grouse in front of the cabin door like a trophy, It was hilarious when Peter and Chris drove up. We settle in for a nice dinner of tenderloins wrapped in bacon and sambucca prawns and roasted veggies, potatoes. We played some poker (I kicked butt) and then off to bed. We made it to 11:00 tonight. After Chris called home, he decided he would leave in the morning as his Mother-in-law was fading and he wants to be there with his family. We decided to have a later start in the morning so I could send Chris home with a big breakfast in his belly.

No moose to hang

Day 4
October 18, 2008

We wake up at 7:00am and I start the coffee and breakfast. This morning fried eggs and bison sausages and flat bread. Chris is packing up his gear and bedding to go home. Peter decides today we are going to drive to another area we know quite well and hope to see some moose or at least some nice bucks. We want to take some meat home. It is 8:30, so off we go. Peter asks me and Azshia where it was we have been going and we tell him. He thinks he should check out the spot we found as us girls were pretty excited knowing there was definitely signs of deer in there. We drive to the spot I described to him and OH MY GOOD GRACIOUS FROM ABOVE, you hear both Azshia and I in stereo yell OH SHIT and right in front of the truck 3 moose BULLS (60 yards) all three and we have a draw for 2 bulls. Peter stops the truck and both Azshia and I climb out and load our rifles, Peter loads his rifle in case he needs to back up a shot. Both of us have trouble loading so fast (adrenaline hit us big time) but we got it together and BOOM, Azshia shoots and BOOM I shoots dam missed reload, Peter says shoot the big one so BOOM Azshia shoots again and down goes the bull and BOOM I sent my bull down. The third bull was so disoriented it never ran from us for about 3 minutes then it just sauntered into the trees. We were so excited and cheering and laughing and celebrating. Out came the cameras for pictures and then the hard work of hauling 2 moose. Peter worked so hard skinning and cutting the moose. Azshia working the Sasquatch cart bringing the quarters to the truck. Unbelievable, how this day came about, so many firsts for me and Azshia and taking a moose each at the same time is the most incredible adventure. By 11:30 we had the moose quartered and in the truck heading back to the cabin. We were having a noon day beer at the cabin with meat to hang. Chris, we missed you so much, you would have been so proud of us. Azshia and Peter worked all day hanging the 8 quarters and washing the meat. The hardest part of hunting is after the animal goes down, the prepping the meat so you have the best meat to bring to your table. I made us lunch and started cleaning the cabin as we will be heading out early to come home. Now more work still ahead of us to cut the meat and get it into the freezer to enjoy some very very wonderful meals.

2 moose hanging tonight.

I know I know pictures - they are coming

eventually I have a couple videos as well - new camera have to figure how to upload videos

I have been a part of some hunting trips but have only ever shot a few grouse but was a part of the process getting moose in the past I have never taken a large animal until NOW. My very first moose, my very first big animal and I know it isnt a trophy but to me it is as I wasn't sure from the past trips if I could ever pull the trigger BUT HELL YES I SURE CAN. I mentioned this was a trip of many firsts and the person I have to thank the most in my life is my husband, Peter. Thank you so much for always being willing to foster and teach me the skill of shooting straight, being an honest and ethical hunter, giving me all your patience, and showing me how to track an animal and look for signs of them. If this turned out to be the last hunt of my life, the memories I have will be the best but dagnabbit - lets do it again next season hehehehehehe

WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO I DID IT

Azshia's bull took two shots - first shot dazed him, he turned and she shot again and he fell over. My first shot tickled my moose's underbelly (missed him) I reloaded and shot again and he fell over with a little dance. We shot both sent our first shots almost the same time so our second shots, we knew who hit which moose

the third bull was just a newbie with little buds on his head - he seemed so unsure what to do at first when his buddies went down - then we all hooted for joy and he sauntered into the buses

not sure how long the euphoria lasts but the way we are feeling right now is so wonderful

Thank you everyone for you wonderful posts - I have looked deep into my heart the awe this trip brought to me and my family and having this forum to share with is the best dang amazing joy, my friends.

I forgot to add one point in my story - as we were driving down the FSR. I looked up at the blue skies and sent a message to my Daddy, I said "Poopsie, if you are really up there, now would be a great time to send a nice bull moose out of the trees for me," and low and behold as we made that turn "poof" we had the 3 of them

Now I wished for a biggun but sending me 3 tender morsals to choose from was even better, they were all trophies to me and I am very proud to wear them antlers on my head hehehehehehe

I wanted to add another little funny story

as most of you know my daughter Breanne is an avid animal lover (she isn't against hunting but she choses not to be part of it) anyways she discovered we had a wayward rat living in my flower bed (which is an old boat) she brought home a safe trap from work to catch this little rat to release him some place where he would be safer from our dogs, she forgot about the trap and just before we went away hunting Peter discovered she had trapped something in it (a squirrel) nice and dried up well Breanne was absolutely devastated that she had such a horrific part in causing this squirrels death

when we got home from our trip she said, "great I killed Rocky and You killed Bullwinkle"

never ever give critters names - makes them too hard to shoot - heheheh NOT that Bullwinkle is gonna taste sooooooooo tender and yummy

Those antlers have more "height" to them....I think it is more mulie than whitetail. I wondered if it "bounded" on to the road or "stotted"? That's the easiest way to tell moose hybrids.:razz:

we thought that, that moose looked really unique and my little guy he has a bit of an oddity also just ya can't see it unless close up :) - the third moose had just small nubs - some strange inbreeding but rather tastey meat mmmmmmmm - had some nice steaks last night - wowzer they were great

thank you again to everyone for all your wonderful support and congratulatory (is that a word) notes

Azshia has also enjoyed reading them :)

I don't think it bounded or stotted, it just fell dead when the girls opened fire on it.
