It was a dark and stormy night.. http://www.survivalbill.ca/phpBB3/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif ...OOPS.....wrong story.... http://www.survivalbill.ca/phpBB3/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif

I was lucky enough to get a Limited Entry Doe tag this year.....which also happens to be my first time ever hunting!! http://www.survivalbill.ca/phpBB3/images/smilies/icon_cool.gif

After three days out looking for a Mule Doe in a legal shooting area I finally had a chance! Hubby and I were out on a awesome crown land road on Wednesday late afternoon, in search of a doe for me to hunt. We did see a coyote, and one mule deer that decided it was better to run away fast then stick around when Gun Babe is out with a rifle. http://www.survivalbill.ca/phpBB3/images/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif

We had been looking for over 2 hours and sunset was about 20 minutes away, when http://www.survivalbill.ca/phpBB3/images/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif I saw a really nice looking doe not far off the side of the road.

I jumped out of the van and loaded my clip in the Remmington 770 - 243, and to hubbys surprise and I guess wonder, started to walk closer to the deer, instead of just shooting it right away..... http://www.survivalbill.ca/phpBB3/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif , but I guess I was on autopilot, and when I felt I was in the right spot and raised the gun, looked in the scope and aimed for the right spot for a fast kill, the deer had only turned around but was still standing broadside to me http://www.survivalbill.ca/phpBB3/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif but was pretty much where I first saw it....

So I finally took and shot and the deer jumped straight up several feet, (this I was told by hubby) and then she ran!!!

I walked over to the spot I shot her and looked down the embankment, and could not see anything. Hubby took my rifle and climbed down and in a minute he yelled back up to me....GET YOUR CAMERA!

So I grabbed the camera, and my two canes and climbed down too.

There she was, laying by a tree in the grass. I could not believe that I not only had the chance, but shot my rifle for the first time from a standing position, and got a perfect shot. Turned out the bullet went between the ribs on her left side, hit the lungs and heart and out through a rib on the other side.

I felt a whole range of emotions when I saw her laying there. I was so excited but also sad. I gave her a pat and rubbed her side, and said a thank you to her for being my first deer. I truley feel she was sent there for me as she just stayed put....even with how long it took me to load the rifle and walk closer and then to take aim and shoot.

She was about a year old and approx 80-100 pounds. That turned out to be good as she was a nice size for Hubby to hall up to the van.

So needless to say it was a awesome week, and a great FIRST hunt for me! And I have to say a huge thanks to Hubby for doing the hard work getting her gutted and back to the van in the now total darkenss.

Also a thanks to the two hunters who came along when I was alone in the dark at the side of the road and went to give assistance to Hubby getting her up to the van.....nice guys from Abbotsford!

If I can figure out how to get a picture uploaded I will post it....have tried three times already .....

Congrats GunBabe...Even though it may be a doe, great harvest. I am sure she will be good eating....

As a side note, as a "disabled" hunter, my hat goes off to you to still get out and enjoy the outdoors and the sport.....You are an inspiration to all....

I think you and your hubby would really enjoy late season buck hunting up in the Peace River country! Long drive but if you could swing it - you two would have fun.

Look into the land owner sponsor program going on up there to get permission to hunt on land up there and with a little knocking on doors at the same time - you should have permission on a place or two.

Gun Babe

Download your pictures to www.photobucket.com (http://www.photobucket.com) (it is a free acount)

Once you have an account set up, hit "Chose Files" under "Upload Images and Video" If you want to download more than one file, hold down on the Control button while selecting the image files from your own computer.

Once the pictures are downloaded to Photobucket, click on the IMG Code at the bottom of each picture and you should see a yellow "copied" come up on the screen.

Now go to your post and where you want the picture, right click and hit Paste. Photobucket will automatically resize the picts for you. You will see the IMG code on your post, hit preview post on the bottom and it will show you the pictures.

If it does not work, you can email them to me at Sitka102003@gmail.com

Just a question...It has been just over a week since my hunt....and I am still excited about it....just telling someone what happened and how I felt brings back the feelings like it was the same day....

Is this normal? I just cant wait to get out again to try for a buck next time.....
