Well I finally harvested a deer.
It has been many years coming.
I have a couple of moose under my belt and a bunch of smaller game and birds, but deer proved elusive.

A nice little whitetail spike for the freezer.
This is going to be delicious.

Thanks, should be good.
Got him right in his bed.
He has been feeding in an alfalfa field for weeks.
Found a spot where they bed after eating all the farmers fodder.

That buck is bigger than any whitetail I have shot, so good work!

Congrats, he will be excellent eating......

Now that you got your first out of the way, you can "trophy hunt" for bigger headgear next year......

Next year!
I am going for a Mulie in region 3 if all goes well next week.
there is also a little trip to region 5 I have to make shortly as well, maybe enough time for a half day hunt in an area I know.
I am just totally hooked now.

I like how you got him.
How did you figure out the bedding area?

A good friend put me on to a cutblock that is in the middle of private land and has a huge alfalfa field at one end.
It made sense they would hole up in there.
Oh ya, everyone else thinks it is private.
This is what happens when you go to the courthouse and do some research.
The deer cross through this block to get to the field, and into the private land sorrounding it.
Check the legal titles of land and you may be surprised.

Sounds like a sweet little set-up.
