Will, on Oct.3, my hunting buddy and myself finally got to head out for a 3 day Moose adventure! The weekend was off to roaring start, the weather man gave us 3 days of glourious rain!! Anywho, Day 1: The plan for day one was to head back to an area we had goten a nice bull in 2003.....Will.......Alder can grow pretty darn fast can't it!!! we spent most of the day there, calling......calling.....no reply http://www.rootcellars.com/nlforum/images/smiles/icon_confused.gif So we pack ourselves up and hike back the wood road another few clicks, and not one fresh sign.....Of Moose.......but we did see 2 really fresh Wolf tracks http://www.rootcellars.com/nlforum/images/smiles/icon_mad.gif .....Wonder what happened to the Moose!!

Day 2: Again with the rain, we decided to head about another 30min up the highway to another drainage that holds some nice Moose country, and no one has been working there for ~ a year. We get to the back end pull the quad out and check out some deactivated roads, What a difference in the amount of Moose sign, pretty sure we spooked 2 as we were driving in!! Still......can't shoot tracks! At around 10am we hit the truck for lunch. Back on the quad and up a road we didn't get up earlier, Buddy jumps off the quad and peaks over the landing.......SH%& a Moose, Cow....NO, Bull.....NO, Cow......Yep, Bull....A couple calls and he's 120yrds......BOOM!!.....perfect hit.......Up pops a second Bull.....Now at this point, I should inform those who have stuck around to hear the rest of the story, that we did have a tag for the second Moose.........But it and me, were asleep........5 clicks back the road......in the truck!! http://www.rootcellars.com/nlforum/images/smiles/icon_redface.gif .....Now before you give me the proper floging, My buddy jumps on the quad rips back to get me.....400m from where he just shot the Moose, another bigger bull is slowly walking up the road towards him, heard the calls no dout!! Back at the truck, sleeping beauty awakens to the sound of a frantic hunting buddy and a speeding quad. We head back, try to get one of the other Moose to show itself but no luck!! So to the work at hand, clean up our tasty little bull and back to camp for some wobblies and spirits!!
The great hunter and his Moose!!

Now, the reason its called the "Porcupine Moose" Will, before he fell pray to the sexy Cow call, he must have found a porcupine and got a little to close:

I have been up to my eyeballs in moose but no LEH and no spike fork season here. I was in on one deer and passed on a few wee ones myself. Otherwise I am counting down until November for bucks and then December for the elk draw.

Ouch!! Now I can understand why my daughter & son in law wanted nothing in the way of Porcupines around their dairy farm.

Nice going on your moose ,Goes to show you that this moose still had some growing up to do ,them young ones are always getting them self into trouble.

At least this one won't get into any more trouble as the pic tells the story.
Congrats on a fine moose and story.

Well done, ran into a porcupine myself last week but stayed far enough away to not resemble that picture.
