I met my partner on Sunday morning early, only to discover he had forgotten to pick up his Migratory Permit, and wouldn't be shooting! He came along anyway to work his Lab,and Punch got plenty of work.THe slough we shoot is only about 30 yds wide and most shots are 20-25 yds,so I took my 20ga 1100,as I've always felt a little overgunned with the 12.It took until 9:30 (longer than usual!),as the flight was late but we left with my limit of 8 greenheads. We'll both be shooting next weekend! Was out at the slough last Sunday,we took my partner's 6yr old twins, and the boys had a blast! We both picked up our limits of mallards, they are stuffed with corn!Back out tomorrow. The total from our little slough so far is 24 mallards,we only shoot it once a week,as it's a resting spot only.Hopefully the northern birds will show before we're frozen out of it! Another foggy morning,it made it tough to pick out the drakes but we ended up with 14,and 2 hens. The birds were decoying well today, but the weather is going to change and we may get iced out soon.52 mallards from the slough so far,and no northern birds among them, hope they show up before the ice comes! Cheers,Gunner
