We were in the Christian valley this weekend. There were COs everyehere, some even on dirt bikes. We got checked every day, some days twice by two separate teams. I've never seen anything like this...

Does anyone have some info what was going on?

That is good that the CO are doing there job.

The kettle valley is crawling with hunters and I would say that they the CO are concentrating on this area because there are so many hunters ,way to go Co ,keep up the good work ,catch the bad people out there http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon14.gif.

Haven't been checked in probably 14 or so years . Come to think about it that was about the last time I hunted 8-14:smile:.

Glad to see them out there!! It's one of the busiest weekends in the bush!

I think this is a case of someone calling the kettle black.

In my first five years of huning, I had never been checked out by a CO, and now I've been checked twice in the last week and a half in two different regions. Defenitely good to see the CO's out trying to do their job. Good on ya!!!

It's good to see the CO's out there. Unfourtunatly, I think there time would be a little better spent in areas where there isn't as many hunters. I believe that generally hunters will police themselves, and poachers etc. will tend to do their poaching where they are less likely to be seen/caught. Setting up roadblocks will usually only catch and honest hunter making an honest mistake. I'm not against roadblocks, it's good to show themselves, but with the limited resources, the CO's should be out driving around at night when the real criminals are at work. Thts just my opinion.

I was talking to a CO in 8-14 last year and he had told me of a problem group doing alot of poaching in the area. I believe they made a bust there last year.

Sounds like the population there is doing well. Maybe they could relocate some to those area not doing so well. Or maybe an GOS :lol:

If you think the Christian Valley is lousy with hunters now, just wait till November when the whitetail rut heats up. The Beaverdell/Carmi area gets inundated with hunters as well. It's gotten to the point that it's almost not worth going there anymore. I just wish the COs had more manpower and could expend more resources on patrols and checks.

The people I want caught are definitely the ones who are killing three elk per year-and using their buddies tag who isn't even out hunting- or they'll harvest a five point in rifle season and sneak it out. Now there is one less six point for next year !!! Multiply this by 50 and you have a lot of missing six point elk for the following year. This hurts the rest of us bigtime- We scratch our heads trying to figure out why the honeyhole is no good for hunting anymore. I have seen spots go down hill right before my very eyes-- these types of guys need to go down - If I was to ask the CO's to do one thing and one thing only it would be "please concentrate on the poachers" The guys that screw the rest of us over because they are ignorant and greedy. The wildlife can only take so much- some guys seem to think that it's an endless supply but I know for a fact that it isn't- the wildlife needs time and protection to come back a bit and recover from the annual harvest plus the friggen poaching going on. The poaching is the straw that broke the camels back- even regular legal hunting can seriously hurt a small population- now imagine adding a dozen poached animals every year and you got good hunting spots going downhill real fast.I know this sounds crazy and I'm not trying to promote it or anything-but I always wondered what it would be like if they stopped all hunting for two years- how many honeyholes would pop up and how much success would we all start to have if we could get the population way up- then really pressure the poaching by increasing penalties ten fold. Sort of like in saudi arabia where nobody steals because you get your hand cut off on your first offence.Would we start to see six point elk running everywhere ?? Would those big whitetails from ten years ago re-appear in your old haunts ???? I bet you they would !!! I would really like to see the population get higher for all our game animals- but I hate LEH - to me its a money grab- If we had staggering amounts of game we wouldn't need stupid LEH- but anyways hopefully our game animals in BC will increase in population rather than decrease- but I kinda doubt it:icon_frow

Yes, I agree - all CO-s were very friendly and did a fabulous job. In case they read this forum - I'd like to thank them for being friendly and professional even when they issue tickets. A friend of mine got burned $200 for having the clip on the rifle while in the vehicle, but he has no hard feelings.

I'm only wondering what may have changed that we saw so many COs this weekend (in 3 days I saw more than in my whole life before).
