I was up hunting yesterday in this cut block at first light and saw 7 muley does. Hiked across the clearcut and into the timber on the far side. Once in the timber I jumped 3 whitetails but never saw any head gear.
Then I decided to go back to the truck and drive up to this ridge where my buddy saw a descent muley buck last week. I hiked up one ridge over to the east as it was easier walking but still steep. It took me 1-1/2 hours to get to the top. I hiked over to where the buck was bedded the previous week. Never saw a deer.
So I decided to walk over to the ridge I came up and sat down to take some pictures and enjoy the view. Then I called my wife on the cell phone and as soon as she answered, I said. "gotta go" as a nice buck just walked out of the timber and was feeding on this open spot another ridge over to the east. I put my binocs up and saw that he was a shooter. I looked at the trees and guessed he was around 400 plus yards. I grabbed the rifle and laid it across a large rock. I cranked the scope to 12x and held the cross-hairs just below the top of the back. I squeezed off and instantly the buck dropped in his tracks. He rolled down the steep ridge and out of site. I phoned my buddy and he was excited about it as much as I was.
I hiked over to where the buck was feeding and he was piled up about 30 yards lower. Then the work started. I dragged him down hill as far as I could, entered the co-ordinates in my gps then went to my truck and grabbed my meat backpack, etc. I hiked back up and quartered him out and took all the meat in 1 trip. It was perfect timing as I got back to the truck just as it was getting dark. This was my hardest muley hunt I've ever had and what an eventful day that I'll never forget. The buck is one of my biggest muleys I've ever harvested to date. Not a monster, but a very nice buck nonetheless.
Pictures to follow as soon as I download them.
Cheers...

Copy the link that says forums(on the photobucket page), on the right side ofthe screen, about the third one down.
and paste it into the box that you would use to post on this forum.

It will show up as a link, but when you post it it will appear as a picture

looking forward to seeing them
