I am going to hunt the Hihium Lake/Upper Loon Lake area in Region 3. I would like to know if anyone has hunted this area and know of any particular spots I should check out.

I'll be hunting along the Hihuim Lake logging road which I think passes through the town of Loon Lake. I don't know if this is the area you guys are talking about. Is this area the good spot?

Town of Loon Lake ..lol... I am planning to go up the Hihium road close to the lake and find a good field when I go up in November.

Personally i wouldnt hunt the loon lake area, i spent a week there without seeing any bucks. There is a forest service road a few miles back on the right before the loon lake turn off(coming from cache creek), dont be fooled it looks like a residental gravel road but it goes directly up the hillside into a canyon from there its up to u. You cant go wrong in this area.

that sounds like the scotty creek road, the deer will be migrating mid october, very good hunting.

Hey guys. My brother and I who are both relatively new to hunting, are planning on taking out father and Uncle for their first Deer hunt this thanksgiving long around Hihium Lake area . I don't expect to harvest a buck but I would really like to show my dad and uncle a good time. Maybe at least have a chance at some deer or grouse . Is this a good area to spend thanksgiving long?? Thanks guys . Good luck this fall

FYI -- You will be near the big elephant hill burn area. Pretty sure Hihium Lake is in the special no ATV zone due to the fire (ATV's o.k. for FN though) and habitat loss. See below, and just checked, no ATV's allowed but you can drive in to most areas without an issue.

Missed a big 4x4 back up in there 3 years back using a borrowed rifle I should have sighted in :( . Look for the does and Mr. Buck will be near.

Blast from the past...this thread is 12 yrs old. Not quite the hunting it used to be in 2005. As stated above, check the regs for restrictions.
