I recall a few folks asking for photo's of the homemade prawn puller that some buddies of mine and myself made a few years back. I had a couple of PM's from guys building them and so I dug up the photos from the depths of my hard drive.

Here it is. We build three of these units and each one got tweeked a little as we went. They are not fast by any means (7-8 minutes to pull 400' of line) but they are strong. I caught a lead trap on a shelf in my 16.5' Cope boat and just about pulled her over before I shut it off!

Heres a shot of the unit working. This was the first one we made. The second two we bent the alum arm upward so the line was level with the Scotty wheel.

Here is some of the harvest of that day a few years back.

Since prawning season is about to pick up here now that the commercial guys are done I might build a new puller for my new boat. I'm thinking along the lines of the one we built previously but with a taller stanchion and make it a 3 piece take down unit. I would incorporate the UHMW block that another poster posted pic's of so you can wrap it without feeding the line. It would not mount on the Scotty base but be supported right from the floor and attached to the gunnel and be around 6' tall total so that when the traps come up they are right at waist height which will eliminate the need to "bend over the rail" to get the traps in the boat. I would make the wheel out of something bigger to speed up the haul time.

To be continued........................
