After a couple long hard days I was able to bag and tag this bad boy!!!

Friday was going to be great I just knew it,I get into my spot before sunrise and get the pack on and walk into the timber and listen for the bugel so I can get closer too..Well nothing but I do find a nice trail to sit by and listen for the bull and there comes some cows down the trail a heart a poundin waiting for him to come into view but nothing as the cow work toward me by the trail they pass 8 feet from me [did not know that was there trail] wow that was cool .After some time sitting there I packed up towards another spot I knew was heavily travelled and set up my blind and waited in ambush mode, high noon came around and crash ,cash behind be I rubber necked around the tree was against but there was nothing there but the crash was right beside me ,so I looked around the other side of the tree and a there was a black bear walking beside me,he gets about 12 feet from me and sniffs the air and sniffs and sniffs then just keeps going ,now that was realy, realy cool,:biggrin:the day is getting better I told myself ,after some eats and a water I doze off for a bit and get woke up by rain and wind ,but I was sitting under some heavily branched firs that kept me dry and comfy....

Another couple hours go by and nothing ,wondering to myself is this the best spot you could sit ,well maybe you should move again or go see what pic's you have on the game cam you have had in the tree for thet last couple days and then I hear crash ,crash behind me again oh shit not another bear as I swing my head around to look I see the white tipped antlers heading through the timber at 40 yards away ,up with the bino's looking at his fronts ,got three good now back shit behind a tree he steps out to the top of the rack I go and yep he has 3 on top on both sides grab the 338-06 leaning on the tree pick a hole the bull will come through and Ka-Boom He side steps as the bullet hits him followed by a pause and a shiver he bolts through the timber and makes it 30 yard as he tips over backwards hitting the ground with a big crash [the bush is very dry ] allright ,throw the blind outa my way and I move towards my trophy as I get closer I am amazed by the beauty and girth of this ghost of the timber[elk ,wapity what ever] A couple thanks and atta boys I call for the packers [my bro's] after some time hanging it in the bush overnight it was a slug out this morning and to the cooler with the meat, but what a friday it was and will be remembered for a long time ......

Here are a couple pic's

Well done Tracker. A 6 pt bull in the Okanagan is a truly great feat. Congrats. Just outa curiosity, had you seen this bull regularly on a trail cam? Is that why you didn't bother bugling or cow calling?

Thats an awesome bull, good for you!

Curious though, why did you count three on top, then pull the trigger, is it just 3 point season there ?

The way I read it... he counted 3 on top AND 3 on bottom, both sides. And no its a 6 point season.
A 6 point elk in the okanagan is an incredible accomplishment, congrads!
I must have missed this one back in the day!

You're right mark, I read it wrong.
All I was thinking is something that makes me shudder that I heard a lot, that if there is 3 on top that its usually a 6 and thats a REALLY bad rule to judge by because its often not true (Lotsa 320" 5x5s runnin around lol!)
Yep, heck of an accomplishment, I got skunked this year on elk ! (and robbed :()
