I was keeping this low key untill after the hunt was over and paper work is in order (includeing that aluminum plug).

Started out with that sweet little piece of paper that I've been waiting 12yrs for... ashanola ram tag second week.

Lots of research, talking to the local wise men and a 10hr hike put us where we needed to be.

Well the info was good and their was a band of 6 rams right where they are suposed to be. Watched them for a couple of days waiting for the first of september.

Opening morning: Hiked out in the dark in the morning about 2 miles around and got into a good vantage point and waited. At 5:30 a bannana ram stood up, kept on the waiting game and the rest soon showed themselves. We watched them for about 20 minutes trying to figure out who was good and who wasn't. After a long discusion I disided it was go time.

Once my ram cleared the others and the range finder came back with consistent 376 yrd readings I turned loose. Well long story short he's 5 inches past the 3\4 mark, aged at 6 1\2 yrs and has 15 inch bases. More then good enough for me, being my first sheep and probably my last out of my back door.

Great time: Yes! Recomend this: Not a chance! One tough hunt and local knowledge is essential and would be almost imposible with out it.

Don't have any field shots on the digital cam where we got him, and have to be carefull of the pics I can show due to very privileged info.
This is the day before my tag started... All smiles cause we knew them rams were going to have a bad day.

Awsome!I had the first draw and after hiking 19km. over the first 2 days and not seeing any sheep,I was discouraged. We did see sheep on day 3 and 4,but the largest ram was only a 1/2 curl.
I gained allot of respect for sheep hunters;very tough hunt in extreme weather conditions and high altitudes.
Good on you.

Congrats Shaker! Great ram! There is no better feeling than a pack full of ram horn! Sounds like you really did your homework, and it paid off. I had the same tag but unfortunately I couldn't make it in for the hunt. I did go in mid July to look the rams over and saw about 25. Here are some pictures, see if yours is in there. Congrats again.
