I have never been bear hunting, and am contemplating harvesting a bear to use with deer for sausage.
I think it is also a great way to get more hunting opportunities and justify the cost.
My question is, does it matter if it is a fall or spring bear?

Thanks in advance.

Nope, but it depends on what they have been eating!!

A general rule is to stay away from salmon eating bears!

All bears need to graze in the spring. I try to find one that's been up for ~ a month and chewin' on the clover (spring).

Now, if I get my deer early and happen on to one that's been feeding on berries.....

BOOM!

That's what I was hoping to hear.
I have a line on a decent black that is full of blueberries.
Now if I can schedule the time........

Turn of the puter and go get him. A blueberry bear is a good tasting bear.
But don't just grind him up for sausage, try some steaks or a roast.
You maybe pleasantly surprised!!

Thanks guys.
I am hoping to have bear roast later this fall.
A friend cooked one up a few years ago and it was delish!
The wife and I are in the middle of trying to purchase a business so time is at a premium.
But perhaps I need a break.
