I was wondering what is everyone out there using for trail cameras. I have been building my own now for a couple years. I know what my pictures look like lets have a look at yours. Here are a couple from out in the woods from the north. So us your best pictures.

I got this 2 weeks ago.

And here is the movie... Make sure your speakers are on for this the cow and calf do a bit of chatting. (3.5 min long not for dial up people)

The whole unit taking the still pic`s are 7.25 X 5 X 2 inches. I use sony 4.1 Mega pixel cameras so you know the photo quality is great (as you can see). The movie is a whole diffrent thing... But I am almost done building my first movie camera. This camera is an infrared camera with microphone of course. The movies just like the pictures are stored on a memory stick. You can get just over 1000 pictures on a camera with a 2 gig memory stick. I have built a few for friends over the past year and they all really like them. No complaints yet....

how did you waterproof the camera?
if anyone is interested in our underwater cameras they can pm me for the company website and phone number.
are you using a motion sensor to trigger the photo or is it a option on your camera model?

Your partly right I have an external sensor connected to the sony camera . I rewire the camera to turn on and take the picture via the sensor. And yes they are water proof because of the case they are in. You can see from the snow they can handle the weather. I have run my camera set ups as low as 20 deg C.

Those are some really great pics mlowe...looks like I might have to upgrade to a custom trail cam. It looks like you use the same spot to mount your camera year round. I'm using a stealth cam right now but the pictures are no where a clear as what yours are.

Oh I should mention that 3 pics are from the same spot. Look at the date and time in the corner.

To reduce debris on the camera, I took a cheap tupperware container and cut it so that the one side is pinned between the camera case and the tree and the other side hangs over the camera case, stopping snow, rain and debris from falling on the camera lens.

Cheers

You guys have some sweet pics! I've just started playing around with mine....I'm learning the hard way- the first time I set mine up I came back a couple weeks later and had over 50 pics! The only problem was that I couldn't find any animals in any of them. I realized that I set it up in a place where the branches moved in a strong wind and set the camera off!

Yikes.... I'm embarrassed to say I can't remember. I have it at my brothers place right now. I know it's made by Bushnell- one of their entry level cameras. I think I need to up-grade to something a little more reliable.
I don't think it's taking pics "fast" enough. I played around with it a bit, and it doesn't seem to catch the movement fast enough?

I read the instructions and there isn't any sort of adjustment to shorten the time from movement sensed, to picture taken.

All the way ... Sorry but I don't like to say where I live. But people don't realize you can get pic like this any where. You have to find out where the game is. Just think of it as hunting year round. Then when hunting season does start you know where to go and start at least. From past experience I know that some critters don't hang out in the same areas year round. Some like one area say for spring and a different area for the fall. Hope this makes sense.

Just get a camera and start having some fun. The bad thing is with the price of fuel being so high you need to keep the camera to a reasonable distance away.

How much does it cost you to build one of the camera units? They are really cool, I wouldn't mind having one or two of them.
