Last march I was comin' out of princeton and at the top of the steep hill by the mine I saw a herd of about 20 cows. And I also know a fella who got one two years ago out of princeton/tulameen area.

I know a guy that got a good sized one around princeton 2 years ago. I've seen elk in princeton, the kettle area and grand forks along with plenty of sign in places but I've never seen a legal bull during open season, not that I've ever really tried for elk in those areas. I think in okanagan elk are more of a target of opportunity rather than something you target if you are from out of the area. If you were going deer hunting I'd have a tag in your pocket, but if you were specifically after elk I think I'd go to the kootenays or peace.

I agree but if you know they are around at least one can be prepaired. I live in Kelowna so if they are near maybe, just maybe i can get lucky. Some one surely must hunt Elk here. If i am not mistaken around 150 mature 6 points were taken in region 8 in 2007.

You are mistaken. The number is about 40 or 50, IIRC.

Elk in region 8 are an opportunity species - very few people actually plan an elk hunt here, but some do stumble across a legal bull when they are hunting deer or immy moose.

I haven't had success with them here, never actually hunted for them. Last couple years have seen elk, a few weeks ago I watched 2 big bulls with my spotter.

I had never seen elk in this area until this summer when i was heading up hwy 33 to go camping and two massive bull elk ran across the road right infront of me. Haven't seen them since but I'm definatly heading out to look for them this season.

Spend some time in the Chute lake country. If you dont mind packing some good Bulls are showing up from the park(Baker & Divide lake area)The fire has provided some great feed.Dont be afraid to drop over into the draws to the west of theese lakes,be warned though, a long tough pack out if you are successfull. Also a chance to pull a good Mulie out off this area.Good luck.
