One evening while watching a few small rams feed, something caught my eye high up on the mountain. I cranked my spotter up and focused on the dark patch, to my suprise it was a mature ram. My brother and I watched the ram for about an hour, a little after 7 pm he got up from his bed and quickly started making his way down the mountain. We through are packs on and figured we needed to get closer. We picked are way up the mountain and made it to a great spot, the rams continued traveling are way. In the end the big ram somewhere bedded down or was just out of our view. Darryl and I slipped back down the hill at last light and called it a day.
The next morning we started making our way back into the area, we stopped to glass the mountain from a different angle, no ram. We continued hiking and glassing from another angle, no ram. On stop number 3 I spotted sheep, a minute later Darryl said he had the ram bedded. After a bit of talking out a plan of attack we both agreed the only way to get on the same elevation as this guy was to try and make it up an ignorant shale and boulder slide. We quickly loaded up and started making our long stalk to the ram. After what seemed like a life time of crawling up the mountain we made it to the first bench, a quick "best of 3 rock, paper, sisors" had me as the shooter (beat him with sisors twice):). Finially we hit the top, we slowly belly crawled over the top and hid behind a giant rock. Darryl through the range finder up and spotted the ram at just over 200 yards. We set the spotter up and picked him over for a few minutes. I then removed my shirt and layed it on a rock, Darryl plugged his ears and kept the spotter on the ram. BOOM, first shot ,ram was bedded and didn't even no what hit him, he stood up and a put another one in him.
I have to say, everything happened so fast, but couldn't of asked for anything better in our favour. A awesome trip and can't wait to find one for my bro now.

No offence BCRB, but WHO REALLY CARES!!!! I know you are curious, but it just seems to get off the post topic and ends up somewhere else.

All the other ram posts have been destroyed by the discussion of age vs populations vs full curl vs blah...blah..blah. GG and Willy what ever act like little kids when it comes to this. Lets focus on the great ram and the hunter, and forget about everything else. If we want to discuss the age, let Terry post it in the "other" post .

I will now get off my stool for the night:-D

Alpine, congrats on the great Ram and the great hunt with your brother. Looks like you had great weather.

Cheers

For you guys that where wondering, we taped him at 163..His Left side was 35 1/2 " with 14" bases and the right was 35 with 14 1/14" bases..Both sides measured 13" for the 2nd mass measurement. He carrys the mass quite well. Neither of us had even seen a legal on a sheep hunt so it was an awesome feeling seeing him lay there!! Now its my turn, no matter how much bigger the next ram is hes mine and I got a personal pack horse

The personal packhorse is the best part. Now you can use him for years and years. Just hold out for the 170+ ram. Haha...make him pack your crap for ever.

Nice ram. I can not believe how he carries his weight. I knew he would have great second weight measurement. Super ram. 160+ plus ram is a nice ram let alone your first ever ram. Good job.
