View Full Version : First Archery Buck
I arrowed my first-ever big game animal yesterday morning. A real nice muley buck. I took it at about 20 yards, shot a little high and hit it in the spine....definately no tracking required:biggrin:. A follow-up shot in the boiler room put a quick end to things.
Anyway, He's still in velvet, but I estimate he'll score between 145 and 155. Could someone post the pick for me??

I spent the last week getting all bug bit, choking back coughs, and always wonderring if I was in the right spot, cursing the wind, and having to go pee.
I just got back from another evening and saw your post and I congratulate you.

Very nice deer for your first buck with a bow ,congrats.
The story....My hunting partner and I were heading-up an partally overgrown logging road (in my truck), to head to a ridge where we were going to try and spot some elk. Anyway, as we were heading-up I saw a large set of antlers sticking out from a thick stand of willow/alder. We kept driving up the road another 100 meters of so, then scrambled-out...hastily putting on releases, arm guards, etc.
After getting ourselves together, we slowly worked our way back to the buck. Sure enough he was still there. I swung around to try and get a good angle on the buck, and got to about 20 yards, but his butt was towards me, and the brush was too high for a shot. Me buddy then started towards the buck, and got to 8 yards, before the buck busted-out of his little hiding place. As he ran past me, I whistled, he stopped and I let one rip. I heard a crack as the arrow hit the spine. The buck lunged forward, and went off the low bank, where I lost sight of him, but I coud hear him thrashing. My buddy ran up the top of the bank, and said "you got him!". I told him to shoot him again, so he put one in the vitals. It was a true team effort.
I was shooting a PSE Stinger, 61#, 359 grain arrow, Grim Reaper Razortip.
Anyway, I'm not much of a story teller, but there you go
.....now for my elk....

Congratulations to you first archery buck. That is a very nice deer any way you look at it. Great story too. I remember my first whitetail buck taken with a bow many moons ago, it was almost the same scenario.
Good luck with the elk hunt.
