He was bedded on a little rise. I shot him while he was still bedded at about 25 yrds. Because he turned to look at me the shot ended up being slightly quartering to. Punched out both lungs, he ran less than 40yrds. The shot was a complete pass-through with the arrow recovery 8 yrds past. The blood trail was light due to the shot ending up high because all the vitals were pushed up by the foreleg. I was shooting my Hoyt Razortec set at 70lbs. Shooting an 27.5" Easton Powerflight tipped with a Muzzy 125gr 3blade broadheaad and the lumenocks. The Lumenock worked like a dream. I can still picture the laser beam straight to where it disappeared into the vitals.

Congrats Steve. Great looking buck, but what happened to your FMJ's?

I went to these for deer. They seem to do the job without the increase in "gap". I might use the fmj's for spring bear. These just group so well for me.
Steve.

Thanks for all the responses. I was able to have a new bowhunter with me and he's hooked. He's not ready to shoot at game yet but he will be soon. He had a great time traking this one as short as it was.

Was this the new guy we've been talking about? Now you/we gotta work on getting his deer.

Yeah same Guy Dan. He will be next. The only reason he wasn't the shooter on this one is because he wasn't confident in his shooting yet. He practicing a lot now. His groups are great at 20 yrds. I saw one with 6/6 arrows touching fletches. He will move back to 30 yrds soon.

The General area was East sooke. We have access to a LARGE piece of property to hunt on. Anything outside of the park is archery only. I might be the coach for the next while my partner's first deer with a bow will be top priority now.

Looking back at the pics...that's a nice exit wound that the Muzzy made Steve. Also a nice set of horns for hanging that Razortec!

Dan believe it or not...that my friend is the entrance. The exit is right behind the opposite shoulder right in the groove.

 Entrance?!?

 You may want to go to a smaller head Steve - save more meat that way....

Hey Steve Congrats on a great little buck.

Thanks for posting this in the "Bowhunting" section. So many of the guys post their bow hunts in Mainland. I know, it doesn't really matter, but a bow kill is a special kill and is deserving of being put into the bowhunting section.

Hermit. See, you should have gone out today.

Congrats again.
