Just got back this morning from our moose hunt. On the third day of our hunt we decided to check out a new cut and I'm glad we did! Saw this guy feeding with a cow and the hunt was over at 5:45 AM. Pretty exciting to get my first moose!

Thanks, actually the Toyota is a friends (I drive a Dodge Pick-up), a special thanks to JoelF and Treeson and others for assisting in retrieving and field dressing the beast!!:p We managed to pack 3 of the quarters in the little 4-runner and 1 on the quad.

I would think why there is no smile on Spuddge face is because of all the work he has to do in order to get this animal prepped and ready for a cooler ,or other LOL .

Yes it was alot of work, he was around 400 yards into the cut, we tried to drag him to the road but the quad just kept doing wheelies, so it was quarter him and take him out a piece at a time. 4 hours later he was back at camp.

This brings up a point that maybe some guys have suggestions on. How to keep the front end down on the quad. I'm planning to run my winch cable back through some type of clevace to the trailer ball, which should pull down on the front to give traction, while tying the head off to the rack to keep the head and rack from digging in. Not to Hi-Jack the thread , but nice first moose Spuddge, Congrats!!!

Very Very nice! congrats,
my concern on those early hunts is what do you do to get that meat cooled quickly and keep it that way. What did you guys do? just curious.

This is a concern I have after finding 3 spoiled quarters in cheese cloth left on the side of the road last fall near stoney lake.made me sick with disgust.

Back to camp as quick as possible, skinned and cleaned and directly to the meat cutters. It was still cool in the morning with cloud cover until about noon. WE had him to the butcher by 2 pm.
