Seen lots of good country and lots of seep but no shooters. Here is the closest one. A solid 7 year old ram that will be a great sheep if he makes it past the slaughter of 08.

The main thing is that you had the chance to hunt these fine animals ,if every one filled there tag every time they went on a sheep hunt there would be non left .

Every trip you go on its all good memories and thats the most important thing on a hunt ,no matter what you are hunting for.

Nice pics, how did the Eberlestock pack work out for sheep hunting, any idea how much your pack weight on the way in?

THE J107 worked well. Only complaint is the shoulder straps could use a little more padding. I was 49 lbs with rifle for 12 days, and I still came out with food.

Any sheep hunt is a great hunt!! Any time two hunters go out and even one of them holds horns, then it's beyond fantastic!

Question: Did that pack cover come with the pack or did you buy it seperately? Was it really water proof? What brand? Where to buy?

The pack cover is from Outbound and it came seperately. It is very waterproof and it is big and lite.

I got the same pack and a lot of lightweight gear so when you say you had 49 lbs with the rifle for 12 days I"m very impressed. You must have gone bare bones for sure.

You must have gone bare bones for sure.

very bare bones, but it is amazing what you don't use and you think you need it.

Lots of my gear is light weight but I will have to replace it every 2-3 years. I think it is a good trade off instead of packing 60 plus lbs around for 10 days.

An oldtimer once told me "don't worry about the lbs worry about the ounces."

49 lbs for 12 days! That sounds fairly impressive (almost beyond belief) I would be interested in seeing your gear list. I pack pretty light, and I don't think I could match that, and I scrapped the outbound pack cover due to its heavy weight! Your pack looks huge, is it full of popcorn?

Do you have a gear list you can share with us? What rifle is that? Do you pack water?

Thanks for the help, awesome pics by the way, not sure how you stand that tripod though, I had the same one 2 years ago, and it went in the garbage, I honestly think I see more sheep with the new tripod as glassing is so much more enjoyable.

unless Urses scale is out that was my weight.

the pack you see is my partners.

Do you have a gear list you can share with us?

I did at one time, but I really don't think I have to prove myself to you.

What rifle is that?

It is a Tika t3 06 with some hot handloads pushing 165 TSX's, topped up with a Kahles AH scope.

Do you pack water?

I didn't pack water with me going in as I knew tha there was good water going in.

not sure how you stand that tripod though

It is painfull, but I didn't find anything in town that was any better.

Sorry, didn't realize you had a partner, that helps alot with weight, and not including water that is easily attainable.

No you don't have to prove anything to me, I just hoped I might learn something as I am putting together my list for my September Sheep/Caribou/ Grizzly hunt.

If anyone wants I will post a list when I get it together, I think mine is fairly impressive, but some items I have gone back to heavier (like my Tripod and Sleeping Mat)

September Sheep/Caribou/ Grizzly hunt

It is going to be tuff to get a lite pack when hunting in the mountains in september. The weather is alot different then from when I went. I also gambled a little watching the forecast and banking on the dry warm weather to continue for my hunt. It turns out the day after I got out of theh mountains it rained like a SOB, and parts of the country got up to 5 inches of rain.

Not to mention that I spend alot of money with gear.

When I get home from work on the 27 of August and I remember I will try to find my list and the weights and post it up.

I think I know why you didn't get a sheep. Your bolt is on the wrong side of your gun . Nice pics man!

Ya I know that feeling, those ounces got pretty expensive this year, but a 5lb 13oz (including, scope, pop-ups, full magazine and sling) is pretty nice!

Would you recommend sheep hunting with a fifty pound pack to a couch potatoe ?? LOL

I know what you mean I spent $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ on top of the line best ya can buy equipment stove, tent, pad, rangefinder, sleeping bag, spotting cope , rifle scope and new clothes etc etc to get THE best quality and also when possible lightest but still quality construction..it doesnt GET the sheep however it does take 'some " of the impediments out of the excuse category..I cant do anything about whatever weather mother nature..or God throws my way but if I have the gear to be warm, dry, fed, and spotting I can attempt to spend the most time in the mountains looking..and that increses my chances of spotting rams..eventually one has to come to me.." even the blind dog finds the occsaional bone"

Great gear IS expensive but it lasts longer, gives better use from the onset and gives you a more comfortable safer experience..

Fantastic photos and helpful insiteful information THANKS..

Steven
