View Full Version : My August 08 Stone !

Ok, I have been holding out, so here it is! My goal this year was to get a charachter Ram larger than my previous two. Ofcourse the hunt really began months ago when our Motley Crue decided on an August adventure. This being my first August hunt for Stones really impressed me. The mountains were so beautiful and lush, the weather was great, and the game seen was amazing. I would do it again tomorrow! We ofcourse put on a lot of miles walking drainages and Mountains estimates of shoe leather was probably somewhere between 20 and 40 miles. The moment of truth was actually caught on video this time which will help bring me back to the moment everytime I view it. My Ram was a heavy old Broomer aged at 10 years old. He was with another good ram we titled The Clown which we let go to get bigger for next year. 1 shot from my 7-08 at 125 yards downhill tipped this monarch over. If it was not for one hind foot digging into the slide and his heavy horns landing on the upside of the slope he would have rolled to the bottom of the drainage 500+feet below. A great trip with a supergroup of Sheep Hunters in some beautiful Mountains. The memories will last a lifetime. It was an ass kicker hiking out of our area, but it felt great knowing I achieved my goal, and had a great Ram on my pack! Can't wait for the next sheep hunt!8)

pictures coming soon!

Congrats Tony!!!8)

I heard your taxi was asked to identify the species for the inspector. The inspector thought it looked more like a bighorn than a thinhorn8).

Looking forward to the pics of that heavy horned beast!!!

I pity the bighorns when you start to concentrate on them:)!!

Very nicely done, did the other guys in your group tag rams too or were you the sole winner of the shortest straw award?

Beautiful country, any more pics of the beautiful scenery?

Wow, what a ram! He is a heavy stone, looks like you got what you wanted.

Curious as to how much curl he had being broomed off like that?

Awesome ram!!

Same guy that said "oh well, doesn't matter if it isn't 3/4 curl, it's 11 or 12 years old anyways"?:?:

Great Ram Ursus, a great trophy for your collection! The mass and physical weight of these horns is impressive. Credit to you, Lil Buck and GE for lots of hard miles and glassing.

Now it's your turn to help me;-)

Thanks everyone:D. Maybe I will get some more packing out pics posted by someone as they are not on my camera. The footage is exciting, I, will think about that, maybe you all can purchase one of my DVD's one day when I produce one? He is definately a shooter. Put it this way, he is a 170 class ram if he hadn't broomed off his horns. Most Stone Sheep hunters would not think twice about pulling the trigger on him. Some of our CI people may need to take a CORE class though to brush up on Sheep Identification and Territory. Credit to all my partners including you to Maxx. I will be there to help pack out yours this year. My turn to return the favor.

Tarp Man, our packs were
1-Taiga
1- Mirosu
2-Bighorn Frame Packs
Our tents were Big Agnes Seedhouse 2
Survived on Mountain House, Granola/chocalate Bars, Jerky, Crystal Lite, and the best part Spices to go with our Tasty Ram Chops which we devoured for Breakfeast, Lunch and Dinner times. They actually tasted better cold the next day! Yummy! Kept the meat and cape cold in mother natures natural ice cooler on a slide beside camp. Great times!

I take it that with 4 hungry guys it was a pretty light pack out:smile:. Downed him on the 3rd...with another week to go. I know I would have had to start sheep rations by then:wink:.

Great trip and a good set of horns to boot! Love the photos....a guy can't get enough of them. I know a couple guys who are holding out on the photos of their recent rams. If it continues I will recommend a banning!

Kechika, what vegetarian? I have never seen a vegetarian eat sheep chops and jerky! Ask him yourself. It is amazing what you will eat when you get down to rationing? That ram was super camp meat all the way out! It pays to pack spices and it weighs nothing either. Delish!

Lil Buck

All I can say is spices and olive oil will change any vegetarian to a meat lover.Oh and so will super yummy whitetail jerky...........

But what do I know LB:-P
