looks around 10, bighorns are tough though, throw a lot of false annuli, which is why ageing bighorns doesn't fly during hunting season...there are enough illegal bighorns shot each year as it is...

Not all rings are annuli. As already mentioned it's tougher to age bighorns then thinhorns. You can tell he's an older ram because of the roughness at his bases and brooming. I wouldn't even guess.

BCRams is currently ageing dall sheep up north...maybe he's already found that 8+ year old.

Its Aug 1.

;)

You get three guesses where he is....and I hope all of them are "stone sheep hunting".

Maybe he's even exercising his sheep aging talents on an OLD ram as I type. I hope so...this season I need to live vicariously through all the sheep hunters on this site...so I wish all of you extra good luck.

Cheers

I would say that ram is roughly 9 years 4 months and 17 days old. Harvested on a friday afternoon. Looks to me that it was shot with a 300 win mag and the meat tasted delicious. Just a guess though.

Nope,I counted all the rings and he is 285 years old so his meat would have been pretty tough.Funny he did`nt grow more horn in all those years?

Old!!
His rings get so close together near his bases its very difficult to tell false or real annuli.I can't recall what the bio that did the inspection said.
On a side note he is bigger at the first circumfrance than at the bases.RB

The pics are hard to see...any chance you can re-do them with a camera?

It looks like a nice old ram....at least 9.5...probably more. I just can't tell for sure without a clearer pic. And if you can get BCRams to identify all the rings for me, that always helps my count too. :D
