One of those items you don't buy often and get used to your old ones BUT When they fall out of the truck and hit a rock and now see double! Its not good. So I am thinking that I will get a pair of 10x40 Bushnesll's
UNLESS you can advise me better? , One down size with these is the weight but I will get a chest Harness.
What is your favorite?

I like Nikon Monarchs in the 300-400$ range. Spend as much as you can afford on the optics IMO the Nikon's have always served me well. Hearing lots of good things about Vortex as well...

Try as many different binos that you can and buy the best quality (usually most expensive) set that you can afford.

I bought a set of cascade Leopold 10x42 this year.

I have used them a few times and i am very happy with them ,I got them off E Bay for $280.00.
I have looked through a set of 10x42 Swarovski and I can't compair the difference between the two.

Nikon's are very good as well.

Another vote for Monarch's but like mcrae said, spend as much as you can afford.
The only issue I had with buying my Monarchs stateside was the warranty, it's VOID in Canada. I got mine at www.binocularscanada.com

i've sold them all when i worked at the hunting shop and there is no way the leopolds are any where nere the swarovsky's i own the 10x42 and where they shine is at dusk and dawn i have put them all through the test all the top end bino's plus low end and all i can say is SWAROVSKI but not every body can affored them so spend as much as you can and get the best pair.

Not to derail this, but has anyone tried out any of Alpen's stuff? I've never had much of a look but I've read good things, (especially when price is factored in).

Leupold!

Although I really liked the 10x42 Monarchs (deemed the 'best-buy' mid priced binos by many), buying my 10x50 Olympics while down in Medford OR. last year was a no-brainer for me.

Why... you ask?

Short story: Years ago (late 90's) I bought my hunting rife from an old guy (Rem. 700/30-06) and it had a 4x (late 60's vintage) Leupold scope on it.
The scope had post-reticule x-hair's and I had trouble shooting with it. I wanted regular cross-hairs. I phoned the Leupold folks down in Oregon and asked if there was anything they could do?

They told me to put it in a box and mail it to them and they would check it out for me. No promises.

Dig this. A week or so after I mailed it off (with tongue in cheek) I received a note from them to confirm that they'd received my scope and that work had commenced on it. Wow! says me. How professional is that?

Less than a month after I sent it away I get it back. I'm anxious about what it's going to cost as thus far there has been no mention of $$$$...

I open the box and take out the scope. I hold it up to the light and look through it... Cool! Cross-hairs... maybe I can hit something now.

It wasn't over yet. I pull out the invoice with the attached work order.

I read:
- New front glass
- New back glass
- New seals
- New std. Cross hairs
- complete cleaning
- re-sealing
- recalibrate

Total owing: $ 0.00

Thank you for owning a Leupold product!

I was blown away.

Sometimes there's more to it than what it is you are holding in your hand.

Well my recommendation is Swaroski 10X42 EL.....however they are pricey but well worth the $$$$$

Just don't drop them on a rock!

(I have a pair of 10 x 50 Sawaroski binos myself)

Here I come again - just like a broken record. Vortex. Best bang for the least $$$'s. Do yourself a favor and have a peek through them before you committ to anything.

I just ordered a set of Vortex Viper 10x42. They should be here in a week or so. I looked through a lower model and they were absolutely great so I expect great things from the viper's. They have absolutely great reviews and the warranty is second to none. I'll post up my own review on them when I get them here.

I'll be very interested in seeing/hearing/reading you review. It'll be a nice bit of corroboration for my own enthusiasm for Vortex products. 8)

I really like my Meopta meostar b1's in 8x50, but my Nikon Monarch 8x42's are darn good value for the money too, got them on ebay new, not refurbished for 238.00 and something like 12.00 to ship. In their price range I dont think you can beat them. The Vortex vipers are getting excellent reviews and may be worth checking out as well.
