I have decided its time to buy a GPS, so for my wedding gift, which was this weekend, my mother in law, who btw hates hunting got us this http://www.tomtom.com/products/product.php?ID=540&Category=0&Lid=4
That being said the battery lasts 3 hours and I dont think its good for anything but in ones car. Its fully returnable from costco. Anyways, question is can any one direct me to a link on here for GPS's? I search GPS and it says its too short or something. I want to know what model is good enough out there, and what people are using? I would prefer something that I can take in the bush, and also use in my car to alert me out directions? Also, dont know if the SPOT is something to consider as I havnt looked into it yet, but do know a rep on this site who deals with them. Any info is appriciated. Is there a way to search things with 3 letters on this site? Dave

Hey bigbore yeah the tom toms are designed for vehicle use, road maps etc.
The go to GPS on the market is the Garmin.
I run a garmin 60cs, the new one is the Garmin Colorado series but its pretty much the same deal for $150 more than the C series, you just get 3d mapping, a bit bigger of a screen and your topo/marine charts are loaded via a card instead of usb through your computer.
The current C series is the Garmin 60Csx I believe and you can find it at most outdoor stores and I believe canadian tire has a good price on them.

Have a look at www.gpscentral.ca (http://www.gpscentral.com) lots to see in there. I'm not sure you'll find a hand held will have audio as does the TOMTOM but with the right software they will get where you need, be it bush or city!!

I just bought a 60csx from them and it's already proved its worth!!

Dave , Garmin 60Csx is the one I showed you that time at your old place .I got it from gps central . If I was buying another one I would buy from them again . It dosent talk to you but it will give you turn by turn directions. Its awesome in the bush . I love it .

Took advise from Steeleco and it was worth it's weight in GOLD, bad days, heavy canopies, trackback is right on. If ya go deep this is for you.

Another vote for the 60CSX. Used it for 2 seasons now an it is very accurate. Its worked very well in heavey canopy. No fear of being lost.
