Cougar and Bighorn Sheep

HI This was going around the hotel today. Guess it happened up at Lake Minnewanka Wednesday night. Pretty amazing.

Last night a couple of my staff went fishing on the lake and captured this incredible sequence of photos of a cougar making a kill. To see this is once in a lifetime. At the same time, our 6:00 pm wildlife cruise had just left the dock and the staff members in the fishing boat had the presence of mind to call on their cell phone to alert our tour drivers. This is what they saw happening. The cougar is about 6 feet long, not including tail (a big full grown cougar) and his victim was a 4 year old Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep. (a Ram) He never had a chance.

Got to love that, was working at QCL on the Charlottes once when a Black Bear took out a Blacktail right in front of the lodge and it's Clients, some were horified, most thought it was cool to see mother nature doing it's thing. Thanks for sharing.

I just talked to a Park's Canada Warden to Day in Invermere who said those pic's came from Lake Minawaka in Banff National Park. She said the cougar kill took place within 25' of the tour boat. Pretty wild that would of been something to see.

Thanks for sharing. I'm surprised that the Bighorn put himself in such a vulnerable position-(feeding close to an overgrown bank-couldn't hear the cougar(noisy water)-& probably couldn't smell him). I guess as in people some animals just don't have it!

I saw a cougar do that to a buddy at a bar one time. Sorry i have no footage of that the tape was detroyed.
