I have never caught a steelhead on a dry fly before and thought that I would like to do it at least once. I am an experienced fly fisherman for salmon on the Skeena and have caught steelhead incedently on the fly before. I have caught trout and grayling dry fly fishing before by skating a fly like a Muddler Minnow across the surface of the water. I was thinking of trying it on a couple of tributary streams in late August or September. Any advice?

The lower stretch of the Morice River outside Houston has arguably some of the best dry fly steelhead fishing in BC in September.

One of these days I will have to fish the Morice. As a kid I read the old now classic book "Steelhead Paradise" where the author fished it in the 50's and 60's the book left a real impression on me. Too bad the upper Sustut and Johanson creek are now closed to fishing. I live in Terrace so will try the local tribs here.

I'd try the Copper if your living in Terrace

That's where I plan on trying first.

It's a really nice river to fish in my books. That said I live on the island and the rivers are abit different. I was hoping to come up this year but was drawn for Island elk so the steelies will have to wait.

There is NOTHING like a summer run on the dry fly, enjoy.
Brings back memories of July/August on the Dean ...
