When do antlers stop growing?

A week ago I saw a whitetale buck who was already showing an impressive looking velvet rack. Lots of tine with good spread and height. Will be a real specimen in the fall. That got me to wondering how much bigger will his rack get to be given the time of year that it is??? I'm not well versed on antler growth, but I'm thinking that there should be plenty of time for those suckers to grow larger. I know antlers grow fast once last years set are shed, but do they get most of their size early on and then taper off?

Antlers stop growing once they have reached their full size ;)

Here on SVI the antlers have pretty much reached full growth by the end of July and they shed their velvet by mid Aug.They still have a lot of growing to do.

Antlers are fully grown in August for deer. Polishing begins late August or early September. jel

In the EK elk deer etc antler growth is stopped at about the last week of july into the first week of Aug http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon7.gif.

I know for a fact they stop right after i pull the trigger. sometimes they shrink like hell from the second i shoot till i walk up to them.

Don't ya just hate it when that happens??:mad: The worst is when you pull the trigger and miss (not that it's happened personally:roll:) and the dang rack instantly grows 4 inches as he trots away!

mowitch slayers bucks usually shrink from the time he phones me till I get the tape on them.

It looked thick, high and wide at 200 yards I got it and hey it was nice, but not as big as I thought, ya I bin there too lol. jel-honey I shrunk the rack.

I let them so so ones go, tooley shoots them and calls them big. When he sees what I got his jowls drops to the floor.
