I had a very interesting fly fishing weekend. My father in law, who is from Nova Scotia was out and I took him fly fishing. I had heard a rumour about a small lake with nice fish.

Here's a sample pic of the fish my father in law caught. ~31-32 inches and 11 lbs. We wore out our arms and this fish isn't even the biggest one from the lake, but a good photo.

Thought I would share.

actually the lake does indeed have some Gerrards ...Kootenay strain of rainbow..known for fast growth and poor fighting..lol however the one Bernie caught and Greg is holding is a Kamloops rainbow...amazing speciman..

Anyhow the Gerrard is a very agressive fish strain and I have had great success on a elaboratly tied minnow pattern called a "red sided shiner " fished in fast erratic type presentation..just like fishing for coho...almost same size too.....

i guess i will hyjack this thread . but i hear all the time about gerrards being interducted into all these lakes . Do`s anyone know this for a fact or is it just when a real deep rainbow is caught its called a gerrard. I always understood it was the water quility and the oxygen in the lardo river and trout lake that created the gerrards and without the added oxygen would just become a normal rainbow

nope just a different strain of fish..no way at all close to kamloops strain..different head, tail, markings fight etc etc etc..
