Went out with "pupper" on Saturday and we went to a spot we found last year that showed promise with all the sign around. We parked the truck and started walking, as soon as we sneaked around the corner the bear started running down the deactivated road. I shouldered the rifle and shot it free hand on the run and dropped it like a sack of hammers with 1 shot dead in its tracks. I was excited as it was my first big game animal ever and thanks to pupper for showing me how to skin the bear hide and bone out the meat for the sausage maker. We are also doing a european skull. The bear was 5'9" nose to tail and was a boar. Pupper green scored the skull around 17".

Assuming the classic Texas Heart shot then... :-P
Can't say as I've tried one. I hear it can hammer up the meat pretty good. ;-)

Congrat's on your bruin and welcome to HBC!

I was with him when he shot and he got him quartering away as the bear turned to run into the bush. The bullet entered in the liver and exited the opposite shoulder(text book shot) I was surprised at his marksmanship and his composure for his first big game animal.

Its always exciting to be with a hunter for his first successful hunt. I was happy to be there to witness and share the experience. I was just pissed I couldnt get the video camera out fast enough:(
