Well I was able to take my oldest son out to try to fill his LEH Grizz tag this weekend.

Not only that, because of a busy school and work schedule, it was only his second hunting trip with me. This Grizzly is his first ever game animal.

Left early and drove to Region 4. Got to our area and started scouting. Went down the forestry road I had thought of, (also had some excellent advice from .358 Mag). Most of the snow is now gone. Saw lots of fat Porcupines and a couple medium Blackies at the edge of a cutblock. Figured we'd see a few more so we passed up on them.

Came round a bend and the road was washed right right over from a powerful creek and plugged culvert. The remaining part of the road was very unstable, especially with all the water flowing over it. Darn. Didn't want to chance it- too risky. Might get a long ways into our desired area, but we may have got trapped if the road completely collapsed behind us. Oh well, thats spring hunting in the mountains. Turns out it was a blessing in disguise.

Spent a while glassing and looking in the green areas. There was about 25 minutes of light left so we moved lower down the road. Some brownish colour caught our eye in a cutlbolck edge 150 meters away. My son gets the rifle up sees a good hump and a fairly good space between the ears. It's a Grizzly! It was busy feeding but all of a sudden it saw us and started to move away towards the thick brush and forest. He was very nervous but he manged to squeeze off a shot. The Bear collapsed right down and was instantly on its feet and bolted into the thick bush.

We waited a short while then went in and found the expired Bear 15 meters into the bush. It wasn't the biggest brute, but it was definitlety good enough for a first ever game animal. My son was very happy. It'll make a good rug for his room.

I'll send the pictures to Steeleco for posting.

wow, first game animal! Way to start at the top. You may find hunting boring from here on in...why not just start with lions or something? What is the most dangerous game animal in the world? Dont say man either anyone. Grizz must be up there though.
