Well I bit the bullet and went to LED lighting for my camper.

The pros:

Uses less then 1/10 of the power of the standard 1141 bulb,

Doesn't give off heat,

last 10,000 hours.

The Cons: Cost about $20 a bulb.

Here is a picture of my camper lit up with 4 of the LED replacement bulbs using .76Amp/hours of energy. The picture is a bit blurry because I had the flash turned off so you could see how much light the bulbs were producing.

If this was your standard 1141 bulbs you would be using 8 Amp/hours of energy per hour with 4 lights on. Quite the big difference when you're camping in the fall and you want to conserve your battery for the furnace. No more nagging at thew wife for having more then one light on at a time :)

Was it just a matter of swapping bulbs. I wanted to do that, but I don't think the bulbs in my unit are available yet in LED. anything like a standard 1157 or the like are available, but the ones I have are a bit wierd (sorry not sure of the part # off hand)

They Make several types of bulbs and conections to work.

I accidentaly bought the wrong bulb for over my stove so I've got an extra 1141 replacement. I've got the same light for the bunk and it's more then enough light for up there but it's not as strong as the ones in the picture and are better suited for a bunk light then a main light.

try www.scourceled.com (http://www.scourceled.com) he's getting in to led big time. the strip lights 12 -24" give off an amazing amount of light, I have started putting 110v screw in led bulbs out side my house for night lights:idea:

Did you use the PCB boards to turn the lights facing down, or were the reflectors efficient enought to spread the LED light?

I should have posted the picture of it underneath the reflector. The PCB is taped to the seiling of the light fixture and it's the reflectors that's spreading the light. I'll try and post another picture tonight.

OK here is a picture of the light without the reflector on. I put double sided tape on the bottom and taped the edges.

Tape works great no worries of it over heating.

Solar panel should easily keep up with the battery summer/ early fall as long as my wife doesn't blare out Newfie tunes on the CD player all day and night:biggrin:
