Well my brother and I got these two bears May long weekend but i haven't had a chance to get on here and post the pics and the story so here it is. Sorry if this turns out to be a bit of a read.
We went for the weekend up to Nakusp hot springs and met up with our parents there. Saturday we did and lot of hiking and scouting in the area but we hunt in that area every spring so we pretty well knew where we wanted to be. Sunday evening the plan was for my brother my dad and I to head up to our honey hole spot for a bit and then meet up with my mom back at the hotsprings. Well on our way up we saw this really nice black boar in a skunk cabbage swamp about a hundred yards away. So we crept around until i had a decent broadside shot. I had the bear's shoulder right in my sights and let fly with the .303. Well the bear dropped instantly and then got up and took off in a straight beeline away from us and further into the swamp. My brother and I took off across the swamp where i managed to loose both my hiking boots about 30 feet in so I kept going wearing socks shorts and a t-shirt. Once we get in the swamp it turns into the densest forest I have ever been in and the most you can see is about 5 to 10 feet in front of you which tends to make the hair on your neck stand up when you know somewhere around you is an injured bear. The bear took us about 600 meters through this swamp and then another 200-300 straight up a mountain before my brother spotted it in a clearing and gave it the final kill shot. Now all we had to do was drag back out through all the crap we just stalked it through. Fortunately my dad had waited at the jeep and we could communicate with him to lead us out and as it was dark when we came out about 400 meters down from where we went in. My shot on the bear was at 8:00pm and we didn't get back out to the spot where i shot it until 10:00pm. So we gutted it and put it in a tarp in the back of my jeep yj. The next morning we went up to a gravel pit to skin it out and another bear approached the edge of the pit and then when it saw us ran up a tree, well this was our last morning there and my brother still had his tag so he went after it and managed to get it about 75 yards away. All in all it was a great trip, we saw a total of 16 bears (although we saw some of the same bears twice) And got two nice ones. I'm looking forward to the pepperoni and burgers :-P. Mine is the black one in the pictures and measured out at 6' head to tail and my brothers is the light colored one and was a little over 5'
