I am curious now with the gas prices going up almost weekly will that change where and how frequent you hunt? or are you a die hard and dont care about it?. I know I wont be able to go out as much as I want to. How busy do you think the bush will be?

I think it will affect maybe how far or how many times a guy may go, but in the long run people will still hunt, I know I will:-P

And after seeing all the traffic on the highway for the long weekend, high gas prices or not, people still fill up their tanks and head out. I filled up the Tundra yesterday from near empty at $1.21/L it cost $105.00:eek:

I think it will also affect what people drive, V8's and even V6's are going to become more uncommon I think.

Long live the 4 banger!

I think you were right when you said you won't be able to get out as much as you want. Pure economics will dictate how many times you can afford to get out, the price of fuel is working itself all the way through the pricing chain. Everything is more expensive simply because everything is related to the price of oil in some way.

Nope, won't affect me a bit.

Definitely yes. Each trip of mine will be more planned than ever, and the cost of gas will also affect my hunting style too.

I will hunt as frequently. If I have to I will arrange for more friends to ride with to help split the bill.

I wait all year long for hunting season and nothing will stop me from getting out despite the oil companies making record profits.

Even more incentive to take up bow hunting and shooting the first elk you see, regardless of age, sex or antler configuration in the first 10 days....Put the meat in the freezer and then no need to buy gas...

We sold the van so I can buy a truck for hunting and fishing with my kids,so it will not stop me from going out.Maybe not as often as I would like, but I hope not though. Now I need to figure out which one to get.

I has already.Instead of taking two trucks the 4 of us well take my quad cab diesel and the big quad trailer. So it well actually be cheaper. Now if we all get our elk???? then we have a problem.

I like to hunt in northern B.C,and this year I decided it is cheaper to fly to Sask. to hunt trophy whitetail.
The gas to and from northern B.C. + hunting is about 6 tanks at currently $170 a tank.
I fly with aeroplan and will consider Quebec next year for cariboo.

i think we should all have fun now because by 2010 gas will be about 3 bucks a litre.

Carpooling is the way to go: Split the bills and have extra hands in camp - a party every minute ;-)

good on ya untouchable not believing the hype that exists out there, the oil cartells in the middle east have alreaDY stated pretty clearly that the peak oil is a myth. there has never in the history of these records being kept been greater supply or storage amounts on hand. the oil companies are wealthy enough to know its in there own best interests to fuel the fires of "shortage justified price increases" after all "everyone knows were running out of oil in the ground" at least everyone seems to be buying in to the THEORY {thats all peak oil really is } everyone knows the world is flat , its allways been flat and allways will be, just go ask the clergy they know.

Well it sounds like it will be business as usual for most guys.Me included ,I work all year looking forward to my trip north .

I am thinking that it may keep some guys home more or the long trips will be shorter or you bring a third person in to split costs.
Instead of driving to a spot daily I may do more overnighters but I will still go.

I'll wait to see the same people post next Dec to see what the results are. We did the run North for the antlerless elk hunt in Feb. of this year and the fuel bill for the 2 of us, sometimes getting purple at the card locks on the way(900 clicks or so 1 way), plus all the side trips and the fuel bill(gas) for each of us was $330. Not cheap in my books so this year for those poor souls from the island and the black hole called the Lower Mainland will be a real zinger.

I never used to save for gas money to go hunting till last year. i limit my day trips and plan larger 2-3 day hunts..

I won't be going as far afield this year. But it's because I work in a Mill and have to use my holidays to cover the many shut downs we're having this year. That being said I feel pretty lucky to have such fine hunting only a few hours from my doorstep, Elk, Deer, Moose, Bears etc....etc....etc....I love BC:cool:!!!!

Won't be going north for moose this year. I am going to hunt south of Prince George.

Nope.

3 1/2 hour drive for an evening hunt to find a grizz yesterday and 3 1/2 hours home today. Worth every penny when your buddy gets his first g bear.

I'm considering selling my truck and quad, buying a small 4 cylinder 4wd and a good pair of boots. Well maybe not quite yet.

I use my Tracker for day trips so it won't affect local day hunts too much, but I won't be taking my P/U and camper quite as much or quite as far away as last year. Especially to marginal areas on the South Island. I'll take fewer trips to better areas and for longer stays.

I hunt 10 mins from home so won't change for me. I hunted elk for the first time last year and I am hooked, so I guess it is elk hunting instead of christmas gifts!! Moosin
