Last year between spring bear and fall open season, I decided to try Bass for the 1st time. Some success after 2 months learning weather & lures at the propper time. Best fish 4.2 lbs. in late august.

Is there a best time to fish and what lure?

Help guys.

I like top water fishing with a floating style jerk bait or popper in the summer. When a nice sized bass breaks the surface, you've got to be real quick on the hook set or you miss them. The first time I tried this on prospect lake I missed 11 fish. When you do this when it's nice and hot out you can get nice scenery sunbathing on the private docks as well. If you flip real close to the docks you can catch the occasional lawn chair as well. My all time most productive bait is a chartreuse colored broken back 4" long rapala, it works every time. Hot shots aren't too bad either.

Rubber Salamaders and a Chartreuse grub have worked well for me.

Lots of big smallmouths in Elk-Beaver Lake near Victoria. I saw a fellow paddling a canoe and trolling a streamer fly catch a stringer of 3 to 4lb. bass one day. Jointed plugs and spinners have always worked well for me. Best luck I've ever had was using crawfish back East. The bait never hit bottom before a bass was on. No crawfish allowed in BC lakes though.

Holden lake in Cedar area should have some good bass but I've never been able to get one.

Anyone have a trick up their sleeve?
