Well this morning started out great! I decided once again to chase the receeding snow line. It paid off, here was my first find of the day, a beauty fresh 79" typical!

Not 40 yards up the hill, here layed the match. exactly a 79" typical but it has a 2" sticker coming from the base to make it an 81".

No sooner did I pack up the pair, I look up the hill to see this!

and the close up, a 12 point mature!

You hear of this, and see pics but this is the first time ive found a set together. A year or 2 old, 3 pointer!

http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/../photos/data/500/medium/IMGA0165.JPG (http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/../photos/showphoto.php?photo=9116&size=big&cat=recent&limit=recent)
At this point, the snow got a bit deeper and the pine was closing in, but something made me push a little further. Not 75 yards more and I found this sucker.

http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/../photos/data/500/medium/IMGA0166.JPG (http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/../photos/showphoto.php?photo=9117&size=big&cat=recent&limit=recent)
At first I thought this was similar to my avtar buck, but it only taped out at 79". No sooner did I take this pic and stap it to my pack I spotted the match only 30 yards away.

http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/../photos/data/500/medium/IMGA0168.JPG (http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/../photos/showphoto.php?photo=9118&size=big&cat=recent&limit=recent)
The rodents went to town on this one. After this, I wasnt to far from where I found the fresh moose paddle from last weekend so I went to look for it. Didnt take long!

http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/../photos/data/500/medium/IMGA0169.JPG (http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/../photos/showphoto.php?photo=9119&size=big&cat=recent&limit=recent)
this was only 25 yards from the other side but burried in snow last week, I must have nearly stepped on it!

Pack was awefully heavy again

Found all this tine by noon and was headed home!

http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/../photos/data/500/medium/IMGA0172.JPG (http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/../photos/showphoto.php?photo=9121&size=big&cat=recent&limit=recent)
And a total of 12 sheds for the morn, bringing my season total to 57

http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/../photos/data/500/medium/IMGA0173.JPG (http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/../photos/showphoto.php?photo=9122&size=big&cat=recent&limit=recent)
Probably wondering why I packed the chewed one on the bottom left... Its the match to the knarly 5 pointer I found last week, (had to bring it home to confirm)

Some paddles reunited.

And heres the better sets together, all found in a 300 yard radius. the top is a 180 plus buck, the middle is his last years set at 160. And the bottom set is about 2 years old and also a 180 class buck!

I figured this set was worth a pic of its own! this is my best set I found in my 2 years as a shed hunter.

The one time I went shed hunting this year I found a pair of 3 point white tail sheds not 2 feet apart.

newbie question. what is the point of gathering sheds?

Looking good Mark, some nice antler!!!

kastles,

I always just enjoyed going out and just hiking up hills "just to see whats up there". Once I started shed hunting it just made it that much more fun. When shed season starts, the bush is pretty much empty. Shed hunting is a great way to scout areas, learn the lay of the land, get excersise etc. I get just as pumped for shed season to start, as I do for hunting season. You never know when your going to trip over a monster brown set, or peak over that last hump and find antlers laying everywhere. Maybe you will find where that big buck is hiding, pick up his sheds, then use what you learned while shedding to find him next fall. Shed hunting has taught me a lot about mule deer, I find sheds in areas that I would never even of wasted my time hunting. I highly recommended giving it a try, its very very addicting once you start finding antlers.
