I went up to chipmunk creek (lower bench road) yesterday and seen aproximently a 4 1/2ft bear I glassed it for a few minutes and he had the coloration of a grizzly dark brown legs and he got blonder as his coat went up his back it got very blonde on the top of his shoulders i couldn't tell if he had a hump though. My buddy from heads above the rest taxidermy was up in boston bar last saturday and seen four grizzly's coming down into a farmers field and I have also seen Grizzly up in the coquihalla forest close to he toll booth so I didn't shoot him I'm just wondering if anyone else has seen this before.

I also saw a bear with that coloration in the same area a couple of years ago, it was a black bear, no question.

Good call.
Better to keep wondering than having too deal with "OOP'S".

In the cranbrook area two years ago I saw a grizzly bear that looked in color figurations the same as what you have just described ,good call on your part to pass on it.

I know of some guys that took a grizz on the east side of Harrison some time back. And I saw a young grizz walking through the parking lot at the Lightning lakes camp site in Manning.

So anything is possible??

I camp at chipmunk 10 weekends a year. I have never even seen a bear! Good on ya for seeing it! Friends of mine saw a small one last year. Very little sign up there. It would be cool if they came back there again.

Colour don't mean shit really, they're all different phases in both bears, a easy indication is the pumpkin (head), the hump etc.

I saw the most beautiful black I`ve ever seen in 30 years of hunting last spring,a blonde with chocolate legs and a slightly darker mantle over her neck and shoulders with 2 jet black cubs.My first thought was Grizz but she was a black bear, just crazy pretty was all.You gotta look hard sometimes.

Lot's of times these tri colored bears are actually rubs or bald spots that give the impression of different colors.
Unfortunately it is not discovered untill after they are shot.

I've seen a few "fudge dipped" blonde bears, all sows. They are very cool looking and I dream of running into a 7' boar with those markings. Good luck, I know, but hey a guy can still dream.

I've found that you may mistake a black for a grizzly, but you will seldom mistake a grizzly for a black.

I have just talked 2 a buddy who's knows the C.O up by hope and he was saying that last fall there were 5 different grizz spotted in the skagit 3 on the american side and 2 on the canadian side. So that is getting pretty close to chipmunk
