What time of the day do you spot most black bears out during the spring season?
1. Dawn, 30 mins prior to first light
2. morning, 9am to noon
3. afternoon, noon to 5pm
4. early evening, 5pm 7pm
5. Dusk, 30 minutes after sun down

Just seeing if everyone out there can agree on certain times not to hunt.

The consensus so far is in the afternoon on south facing green slopes.
Being in the right place at the right time has always worked for me LOL!!

I have found bears all day long and shot them all times of the day however I also have shot most of my BLACK BEARS in the evening w/i a hour of sunset..which by the way is opposite of grizzlies where I have harvested 85% or more in the early morning..mostly because I have been hunting slides and one considers the effects of the THERMALS...on COASTAL grizzlies it has been 7 /10 grizzlies I have shot or "HELPED " someone else get their bear..have been EVENING /AFTERENOON BEARS..thats 30 plus years experiences...

Early evening seems to be happy hour for bears. Typically I don't like this time of day for hunting them, so instead, I leave around 9am looking for the late morning bruins. As the day warms up (mid afternoonish) they seem to start disappearing again.

Answers 2 and 4, but anytime through the day isn't a waste of time like daybreak seems to be.

If size of bear is not a factor, anytime after 1pm is a good time to expect to see a bear. All the big bears I have shot though, have been after 6pm. I don't hunt numbers anymore, so I rarely head out before 5pm, unless I'm looking for a good place to be for the evening.

I've seen bears all day, shot most in the morning so I guess I contridict the others but like I say, I see them all day, actually see most around mid day the more I think about it ( 10am to 3pm).

when i use to field hunt for bears in northern BC they would come out more in the evening just before dark, but bush hunting down here in the interior i tend to see them from noon on, havent seen to many near dark

in the past 20 years,
we seen and took about 95% of the black bears between 7:30 -10:30pm in the spring.
grizzly and fall black bear are a different story.

No bother to get up early, the afternoon evening I find to be most productive.

Used to work all over the province, here's what I've noticed............

In the spring around the Thompson /Nicola area, if the temperature is above 5deg celsius Bears will be out between 8 am and 7 pm.

If in the northern Cariboo, Bears will be out from around 6:15 am and 7:30pm, but only .. and I mean only.. if it is sunny!

Up In the peace area for the ultimate bear hunting times, be out of bed and in the field by 6:30am. Expect to see bears until sundown, roughly 7-8 pm, only on sundays though, the rest of the week they are late sleepers and rise at 7am.

I can't say much about the Island or coastal bruins, but with all that noise down there, I would expect to see bears 24 hrs a day.

I have encountered bears at strange times around the Prince George/Mackenzie area. Seen them most active, stealing picnic baskets around 12 Noon. Seen some poor polish tree planter wrestling a blackie over a ring of kolbasa. I'm thinking the bear had maybe gotten into a grow op, and had the munchies!!

Guess I'm Saying the blackies can be found at all times of the day, all over the province, and just getting out there and kickin the dirt around will probably be enough effort to get a cancelled bear tag! Moosin:wink:

Afternoon till 5. They the black bears are late risers ,you see most bears after 11am in the morning ,sure you find bears up and wondering about befor 11 am but are fewer. For some reason they like it more so on the warm side for some reason which I can't understand with ,you would think the table would be turned around with that what coat they are wearing ???.

No doubts.....#5 for me. A guy can defenitely see bears at any time of day, but the action always seems to pick-up in the evening and continue to get better right until last light.

In the heat, they spend time nearer the creek bottoms too.

On the Island they are usually moving around 10 am if it is sunny. Then around 5 pm any day. Some of the really big ones will come out right at dusk. You can sleep in and have a nap after lunch. How cool is that?

When guiding my faverate was 11:00am - 2:00pm for the biggins. For sheer numbers the last 30min of light. Where I hunt you can't buy a bear before 10:00am. Thankfully so. When its light out at 4am and dark at 10pm that makes for a loooooong day at work.
