I joined Kozakgriz, Darth Walter and K's son a couple days into the hunt, with their turkeys already on ice. Lucky for me that gave them some extra time to scout out a few gobblers before my arrival. We got an answer to our hen call before first light. He must have gobbled close to 200 times over the next 45 mins, but would not leave his hens...Another one was heard gobbling away, closing the distance so we abandoned our decoy set-up and got in position to cut him off heading to the elusive Tom we could not convince to come out. Within 10 minutes not 1 but 2 jakes came into view. They spotted us and headed off into the ditch in the opposite direction, not yet at full speed. Kozakgriz gave me a quick shove, along with a an enthusastically whispered "Run up there and blast him!" A short sprint of about 15 metres had the birds in sight, and I dropped the first one I put the bead on!
A big thank you to Kozakgriz and Darthwalter for being my scouts and guides and making my first turkey hunt a big success! Too much fun!!!

Mr. Dean, we were in my buddy's secret spot8)...in the Kootenays;-).

Running and gunning added some variety and excitement:-P

Definitely a good time. Ended up seeing several more birds out and about, I can't wait for next year!!! Will have to actually get my own turkey gun by then...

I hear they taste like....... Grouse.

Actually, they taste like turkey, but a very rich flavor, sometimes gamey tasting in older birds! They can be tough and dry, I recommend a crockpot!

Oh by the way, Congrads on yer first tom! Im sure yer hooked now
