Got into a group of 5 wolves yesterday while out for a hike. Was able to get some video footage of one of them. Had some fun talking back and forth with them. I'd howl and then they would howl back. It was a pretty awesome experience. Here is some video.

Very cool footage and what an experience to be fortunate enough to be (right in the pack ) . You can sense the nervousness in it's actions as it knows somethings not right.....aka your proximity. Good footage !!

Cool. My buddy and I did a backpack hunt last Sept and the last 3 nights we had two seperate packs on either side of our tent spot howling back and forth. Should have turned the vid cam on just to record them, it was pretty wild to say the least.

When they were calling back and forth to me I turned the camera on and recorded it just for the audio. Pretty neat even though my calling voice sucks. LOL!

Good stuff....called in a couple wolves over 10 years ago with cow moose calls and video taped it. Showed it to the rancher whose land I was on, and first thing he said was, "Where is the gunshots?" Called me a couple nice names after I told him I was too excited just to have them coming in on film.

We had Wolves calling back to us a few years ago hear on the island while hunting for Roosevelt's. I know how exciting of a felling it is Dana to be able to hear them call back to you.

Those short choppy barks and quick up and down howls remind me of a coyote challege call...possibly in response to your howl??

Yeah , I was thinking the same thing SSS , I 've had yote's bark at me just like that ( until my .06 barked back)

New hunting year started April 1st. Haven't picked up a new licence yet as I normally wait until May when the bear hunting gets good. Seems I should have learned my lesson by now. The new wolf season last year started Aug 1st and it just so happened I had a wolf broadside at 30 yards, stand and stare at me on opening day. No gun. I think he knew it. The only time I've had a black one stand still too. :oops:
