I am planning a bear hunt for may 1 to 3rd in 8-5. I fear because of the heavy snow this year I am hoping it will thaw by that time.

Anyone out that way got any comments???

8-05 is up near Princeton...right?

I just checked. Its Whipsaw creek and Tulameen river. Last spring, I think it was around half way through May, I spoke to 2 other hunters there that said they had seen lots of Bear sign and glassed a big one munching grass.

If we get a warming trend, it'll thaw out nicely there by mid May.
In Sept. 2006 I spoted a real nice Blackie coming down Sunday Summit main FSR. 5 days too soon. Couldn't shoot.

Perhaps keep to the south facing slopes and green grassy areas.

Good luck

If it was me ,I would not head out in that region till the third week of may ,you then will have a better chance on getting to places without being stopped from the snow on roads.

The bears will be out - whether you'll be able to access all the areas you want to go might be a problem.

If you were there in Sept. then the season was open. I beleive they changed the starting date about 3-4 years ago to Sept. 1

sfire,
like I told you.....some will be out ...no doubt. but...Crazy and I hope to go from the 2nd. to the 3rd week of May. You'll likely see some, as alot of the guys say, they are seeing some now.

Who needs the 450, you have the 300 as I, you'll see that 7 1/2 footer out 250 to 300 yds. and need a scope, his 450 hasn't one. Go get em friend! I'll get mine with the 300, at the beginning of week 3. Don't worry sfire, you should see some when your going. You can always take standins.
