I think too much iron in your blood is usually caused by an auto-immune problem resulting in your body not dealing with iron properly. I know a guy I used to work with who had that problem.

I probably eat 1-2 lbs of game meat per day! How would I know if I had too much iron in my blood??? I'm as healthy as can be!

You guys are killing me .The reason I asked this is because my doctor called me back after a routine blood test and told me that my iron levels are through the roof and that I should come in and talk.Thats never good! so Im hoping that its from to much red meat.

you shouldn't be getting to much iron unless you're eating a lot of organs.

Never knew anybody that had a "too much iron " problem. (too little- many times!)
Common sense solution-(IMO)- donate blood once a month & stay away from LIVER.
Remember the stories about polar bear liver.(even a couple ounces could kill you) The liver is saturated with minerals and vit A.

try donating blood. Its a good way to refresh the system and get rid of iron.

It sounds like you have a condition called Hemachromatosis, or just a medical term for too much iron in your blood. It can really throw you for a loop but the good thing is it is completely treatable. The treatment usually consists of, believe it or not, bleeding. You give a pint of blood on a schedule that is set up for you and your iron levels drop back into range. Apparently, the blood you give is perfectly good for donation as well so you can be helping to save a life too. I was in the same boat for a while but for whatever reason, my iron levels, although are in the high normal range now, dropped. So, don't get all worked up about it but make sure you make that appointment with the Dr. Hope that helps put your mind at ease.

Cheers.

Since 1977 the wife and I have ate game meat exclusively, all three kids, ages 21,23,25 all raised on it and not a sign of any high levels. Organ meat is high but you would have to eat a lot.
