3.5 lbs. for me too. I've been fishing around the PG area for most of my life. I have to admit that I don't really go to the big lakes that hold much bigger fish but with the amount of fishing I've done and the fish I've seen caught I have to wonder about the amount of 5, 6, & 7 lbers I've heard about. When you're holding an honest 3 or 3.5 lb. rainbow it is a nice fish.

I caught a 32 incher in Hobson Lk a couple of years ago. Probably weighed between 10-12 pounds. Caught it just minutes before sundown with a beautiful sunset across the sky. The only problem was that I had lent my digital camera battery to my brother who was on a sheep hunt, and didn't get a pick!! Oh well... a memory forever.

you wighed it did you??
Nice fish Horshur, but like it was said earlier not a nine or ten pounder. When you have fished enough, and handled a lot of fish(not saying you haven't), a ten pounder has a real different look about it. Personally I haven't got a ten pounder on a fly rod, however, I've gotten a few with gear. I'd say that fish was in the neighborhood of five pounds also.

Here are my two biggest. Both were 26"x 15 1/2". First one was Thanksgiving caught on a size 16 micro-mini beadhead leech. Second was the following June and caught on a size 16 olive damsel. Excuse my fingers in the second pic and these fat buggers are a beetch to hold on to.

There are now landing 30-34" fish in that lake built like these guys:shock:. I think it's time to head back there.

Well, at 4 years old my daughter officially caught one larger than any I have landed. Needed a lot of help from by buddy and I to get it landed-as usual the kids outfished the dads that day. Here she is with her little fishin buddy. If I remember correctly it was somewhere in the 26" range.

I didn't catch this fish my uncle did and it was from Kootenay Lake. It still stands as the record for that lake and it was a beauty. I'll never forget seeing that thing on their kitchen counter the day they caught it.
It's official weight was 35.12 pounds and was caught January 25, 1976.

There is quite the mix of stocking in dragon. There are triploid pennasks, triploid tunkwa, diploid pennask, tunkwa, blackwater, native dragon, gerrard and tzenaicuts and probably a wack of others. All kind of rainbows in dragon. Rarely do you catch two consecutive fish that appear the same. I believe the 27" fish I posted to be a tzenaicut or gerrard diploid. It is clearly not a tripoid. The fish may get coloured up, but they sure as heck dont spawn in mud :)

Didnt bonk that one, it was too pretty. I have heard that they are muddy too, not to mention sewage leakage, etc, etc. Sewage affects bivalves/filter feeders, not so much organisms higher up the food chain.

I have bonked one out of there on a few occasions, and never had a bad tasting one (always icefishing), in most cases i leave the big ones, but sometimes i cant help myself. They taste just like any other trout i have ever had.

Know a lake where on an avg day you could load a small boat fly fishin. The bows we were catchin there were avg 4-5 lbs occasional larger. They took the fly in the air, some jumped and took it on the way down sumtimes several were chasing it at once! One time on my sloppy back cast my fly hit the water behind me and a trout got it before I could continue the cast. Lost it tho.
Water was so gin clear we could see them rising for the flies from 20 ft deep I think. Coolest trout fishin I ever did.

When I was a 16 we fished out of Belfour and I caught one 27lbs on Kootenay Lake in 1979. My biggest on a fly was a 17lber from Ritcher Lake in 1987. I caught 7 fish that night. Nothing less than 8lbs based on length and girth measurements. At the end of the evening the biggest one dophined away with lighting speed and screamed my reel to end of my backing in what seemed like 5 seconds. Then with one final leap snapped the backing knot off at the reel. It was almost 11:00. My creel was way overfull with only one fish and my arms were spent. Good memories!

First time ever flyfishing 13 years old. Couldnt even cast 20 ft. Caught and landed a 10lb rainbow in a lake in calgary. Saw a big gulp and I played it till I could no more. Pulled it onto the beach and my brother punched it to death cuz we had no rocks or clubs to kill it!!! Kept it in my freezer for a long time, never could get to eating it, too proud showing it off! Finally gave it away to someone who did. Got me hooked for a long time.

We lived in Nakusp in the 1960s. My Dad caught one about 24 or 26 lbs. in the Arrow lakes. The thing is there was a fishing derby on but he figured he wouldn't win so he didn't enter. He did make the front page of the newspaper though. Sorry no pics. I was 4 or 5 at the time. We had that newspaper photo for years. Probably lost now at Mom's house.
