my new springer spaniel pup flushed a snow shoe hare today only the third hare ive seen since arriving in canada how are the numbers and were are they most plentiful in bc?any one know?

Where you are high to extreme this winter. Seeing them everywhere.

Hare population where we are in the N. Okanagan has been very good this year especially up at higher elevations. Unfortunately you will have to take your life in your hands, unless you have a radio, if you are planning to drive any of the FSR main roads as there is just a steady steam of logging trucks coming off the mountains.

I see about a couple dozen of them when heading back to camp after dark in the cranbrook area. Lots of them pesky little rabbits in that area.:wink:.

The cycle will crash eventually. It's a natural cycle that has them die off naturally once they peak. Trappers have followed this cycle for centuries because Lynx and fisher amongst other fur bearurs are tied to that very cycle.

i havent been seeing too many lately- no more then out of the normal- but i have not hunted them this winter either.

They are white at this time of the year and very nocturnal since daylight hours are short. Hard to see in the snow.;-)
