Me and some outdoors people I know are thinking of using Quads for hunting and fishing. Will you show some good photos of your Quad in the bush or field so we can talk the wives into trying one for the hunting season. Maybe mention what the quad has done to enhance your trips.

Here's my Yammy grizzly down a seismic line thats purely on muskeg, break the skin and you literally sink, I could drive with my tires but when you walk you almost break through.

http://www.huntingbc.ca/photos/data/500/medium/beatton_river.jpg (http://www.huntingbc.ca/photos/showphoto.php?photo=7309&size=big&cat=500&ppuser=1919)

Crossing the Beaton up north, we are WAY in off the main road off of deteriorated seismic lines, don't be fooled by the looks, the river had a deep bank and my tires are 27" mudzillas and a 2" lift kit, pic just don't do justice.

After pounding the hills, trails, we start riding back and I stumble across the immy on the main road and plugged him, Mntmans quad in that pic, but very easy to handle the moose and get back to camp, damn that grease!

Got caught in 2WD in 2 and a half feet of gumbo, suction was to great even in low so getting a tug out! These quads make for fun times mid-day, but I always seem to be the "tester" of roads, so I work my machine hard, but always keeps ticking!

Very nice picture examples of how a fancy Quad can enhance hunting success. You must have more to share? Nice country to get into.

:biggrin:Wish I had pics....but you know what they say..."what happens in Renfrew, stays in Renfrew."

Yes, my friend, they were paramount in our ability to not only rescue said damsels in distress, but were the talk of the town as we were treated to not only a parade replete with Fire Engines in full blossom and the entire off-duty Detatchment of the local constabulatory, but were offerred the first-born of the residing Mayor (in trade for the Quads, I might hesitatingly add).
Needless to say, it all culminated in the tavern (where ramps were constructed that allowed our driving up onto the revered pool tables) and much insiduous imbibing of some concoction that mandated the use of virtually black sunglasses the following morning.
Which was a solidly decent thing, as to cast unshielded eyes upon the things we'd done with the cold harsh daylight as a backdrop to our debauchery...would have rendered us not only blind, but neuter for the remainder of the season.
All in all, completely un-attainable without our trusted and now-famous mechanical steeds. But that's Renfrew...
Oh wait....We were supposed to convince your missus? Better not let her read this one then....

Me on my brand new Kodiak 450...one of my very first rides. We went quading and crossed a stream on the way out. When we came back later in the day it had turned into a river. This was the only way back to the trucks. Needless to say I was a little nervous. This pic doesn't do the river justice. I crossed the river balls out. I was pushed down the river considerably before I got to the other side.

Me on my quad in the East Koots Sept 07...my buddies whitey we got that morning at about 8:00 am...his first white tail (a small 3x3) and his first season hunting, my second season. The first of many more hunting trips with him I hope.

This is my Big Red that I have owned ( and still do) since 1983. I would call it efficient, not fancy though, but it has hauled a ton of game like this young bull. Front quarters and head on my bike and hinds on my buddies.

Just in the process of buying 2 new Kodiaks, a 450 and 350 for the wife and I.

I bought Peter the quad 2 years ago Valentine's day and seems the kids take it over when we go to the cabin, he also uses it to plow snow and loves the fact that he can take it hunting and have the security that if he needs it, it is there.

Funny,I looked through hundreds of pics and the only one with game is from helping a friend with her roosevelt. I use mine more for a means of transportation where I cant get with my truck, but both are just to get me to a jump off spot.
No mechanical help on most of my pack outs !
A year round source of fun, great for helping friends and fun to sink $ on.

I don't have any pics of my quad when hunting, but I got a kingquad 450 and I love it....works real good for hauling firewood and stuff when hunting, still haven't had the pleasure of dragging a moose out with it.

I notice a lot of you guys use the plastic box/seats on your quads, do you like them? I just have a 2 gun holder on the front rack and one of those costco 40$ mesh baskets on the back rack. I can pile things up pretty good on it and use bungees to hold stuff down. Is there a benefit to those boxes? I have looked at em, but can't bring myself to paying 200+ bucks for one, they don't look waterproof to me and seem like they make the quad bigger so it's tougher to get through thick shit.

I just bought $30 waterproof toolbox from Home Depot and bolted it on the back rack, it works just fine. They're good for keeping your lunch, extra ammo, toilet paper, rain gear etc...

pic is from top a mountain in southeast Yukon, it took us a couple of hours to reach this far from the other side of the lake in the back ground. We saw a nice herd of caribou but again we were just looking. Strangest thing about caribou is they are so curious they came from 1/2 mile to 150 yards just to look at us. We saw sheep about 2 miles away at the top of the mountains but like the caribou, we were just looking.

I definitely hope to own a quad one day, but if I could, I'd love to buy one of these bad boys too! My buddy in PG supes them up like this for hunting. The only down side is you can't really sneak under things in one of these. I guess you'd just have to throw your chainsaw in the box!!
Hey Jelvis, tell your wife you are gonna buy one of these things and then a quad will seem like a compromise even though they're probably the same price!! ;) (I know I already posted these on another thread, but I just think they are so cool!!)

Heres my dads 2001 suzuki Vinson 500 with last years closing day 4x4 whitey on it, we dont bother with quad boxes cuz there would be no space for the deer

Since we got the quad there has been about 10 deer carried by it as well as 3 or 4 moose,
so far this year it has carried a 4 point mulie and a 2 point immature

I am guessing your truck is a cookie cutter yota that is locked F&R 5.29's and a 4.7 or a doubler yada yada .:lol:
Saying that it will go where a quad goes is rather fun to pretend but the reality is that a quad will go many more places then the best equipped truck (unless you mean on the road). Perhaps if it were a moon buggy I might consider it but lets be realistic about it.

They probably stopped to watch because it's fun to watch trucks navigate a large pile of boulders. I'd probably stop and watch too.

not one of them(ther ewere lots)would even think of getting on there bike to followLOL, they probably could have scooted up the hill beside the big washout, thereby bypassing the washout.:tongue:
I've owned lots of 4x4's and quads over the years and while you have a nice 4x4, there is no way you could go the same places with a truck that you can with a quad. Try a seismic line or some gumbo up North for starters.

sorry bigmike...don't mean to be a jerk but quads do have the advantage because they are able to fit into tighter areas. We can see that you have nice looking bush buggy but just because it is big and has big tires doesn't mean it has the advantage. I have seen/passed many stuck trucks out in the bush with ease on my quad. Like someone had already mentioned try navigating a seismic line in a truck. Even if you could do it, you wouldn't be able to do it as fast as quad.

That is basically the just of the argument. I don't have to "smash" my quad to get into spots. We have Landcruisers and other rigs in my family but there are places we go that no truck no matter how well equipped is gonna get:biggrin: you just ain't gonna fit:eek:.

We have gotten the Samurai into some gnarly spots though...

I've heard the best hunters on quads say if something on a back road completly blocks a road they can find a way around it through the bush with very narrow trail where a truck could never go. So with what everyone is saying so far is a quad is way better in the forest than a 4 bi.
Case closed!
Jel-quad is way more effecient in the thicker stuff. Hands down.

Thats excellant cause I was worried that maybe the muddy water ya made was gonna wash downstream into water that did have fish living in it. So I am guessing its one of those wash out / creeks that drain into a gravel pit and then seeps into the earth, good on ya for picking such a good location. Too many people are of the if I cant see it here, it dont exist mentality
Its just that in that pic it looked like a natural stream going through a forest. Some of the local 4wheelers got them self in a mess-o-trouble posting such antics on you-tube......seems like a great place for the CO's to get evidence.

quads and trucks will go places each other can't.........plain old physics wont allow a short wheelbase up a steep hill....longer wb will allow that....
to narrow is the only downfall for the truck...........there's nowhere a truck won't go that a quad will exept for beetween two really tight trees. and remember our truck will go on its side to make room......our truck is beyond capable for huntingyou get a heated dry cab with wipers winches lighting all around a box for large game....hydrolic steering so my arms don't hurt at the end of the day....hour many hours in the cold on a quad can you last?..........i can go days all warm in my truck.........i own and owned lots of quads and have ridden for 15 years.hard........theres just not much you can do on a quad when there's a rock wall the size of your bike ...or the snow is 4 feet deep...but the truck don't mind........and in these real hairy spots where your bike might roll and you get hurt...the toyota just rolls over smashing rocks and if i land on my wheels i drive on....safe.............

not to mention all the room and spare parts you can have

we also have selectable lockers fr and rr like a quad.....i don't know why none of you guy's run beadlocks on your bikes....best thing i ever did

they both have there ups and downs but an experienced driver in a capable rig will get you just as far in comfort..........

.........but a good rig cost way more than a quad

sorry no pics of quads.but heres my white toyota and a few other toyotas in the lml......enjoy

this washout would swallow my 660 grizzly on 28's.........this truck rolls on beadlocked 40 inch tires......this is our toy

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n255/toyotadon/gffdg4.jpg

tight spotts are ok too

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n255/toyotadon/gffdg11.jpg

my grizz is half the size of the rock i'm coming down....i drove up it on the way in...there's no way a quad will drive straight up a vertical 5 ft wall

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n255/toyotadon/Picture505-1.jpg

think a quad would drive through 4 ft of snow?....mine wont but my toyota will...all day long

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n255/toyotadon/rccomp070.jpg

or up hill in 3 ft sow hills breaking trail

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n255/toyotadon/uiojoijkoij031-1.jpg

i know this log wold stop my quad if i couldn't get around it

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n255/toyotadon/wheelin016.jpg

kinda steep for a quad....not for a truck though

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n255/toyotadon/canada202602028Small29.jpg

here's old blue on rock i could barley walk up

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n255/toyotadon/canada202782028Small29.jpg

and i wouldn't dare take any of my bikes on this...but in my cage of my truck i say no prob

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n255/toyotadon/DSCN4284M.jpg

i find quads are good for scouting....the grizz is a little slow compared to the truck and rough and a workout

and what about when the mud hole is covered in 4 ft of water?.....the truck dosn't care

Wow, your truck must be on tracks or does it probably have 33 BFG and its twenty feet tall..dude your out of your league on this or just smokin meth again!

I'll bet your paycheque to mine that you're smoking crack, put down the pipe and get back to reality!

Tell me again what leauge i was trying to be in???Do you have a truck or some knowledge youd like to share???maybe something other than childish banter.......can you even read what you post???

in reality my truck sits on 38"sx's and its far from 20 feet tall,im actually trying to get it to sit lower to keep the center of gravity on my side.
not all people with 4x4's are mud bogging yahoos, some of us have purpose built trucks that work very well......just like our quads, our trucks get trailered to the bush thats what they're built for.
You keep saying how us young guys dont have a clue, but on the same hand you have no idea what you are talking about.....why is it so hard to believe something just because youve never seen it???

the challenge stands:
anyone with any quad
lets go out for a day of wheelin and you guys can put your money where your mouth is
itll be fun
ill bring the barbq and grill some critters

quads and trucks will go places each other can't.........plain old physics wont allow a short wheelbase up a steep hill....longer wb will allow that....
to narrow is the only downfall for the truck...........there's nowhere a truck won't go that a quad will exept for beetween two really tight trees. and remember our truck will go on its side to make room......our truck is beyond capable for huntingyou get a heated dry cab with wipers winches lighting all around a box for large game....hydrolic steering so my arms don't hurt at the end of the day....hour many hours in the cold on a quad can you last?..........i can go days all warm in my truck.........i own and owned lots of quads and have ridden for 15 years.hard........theres just not much you can do on a quad when there's a rock wall the size of your bike ...or the snow is 4 feet deep...but the truck don't mind........and in these real hairy spots where your bike might roll and you get hurt...the toyota just rolls over smashing rocks and if i land on my wheels i drive on....safe.............

not to mention all the room and spare parts you can have

we also have selectable lockers fr and rr like a quad.....i don't know why none of you guy's run beadlocks on your bikes....best thing i ever did

they both have there ups and downs but an experienced driver in a capable rig will get you just as far in comfort..........

.........but a good rig cost way more than a quad

sorry no pics of quads.but heres my white toyota and a few other toyotas in the lml......enjoy

this washout would swallow my 660 grizzly on 28's.........this truck rolls on beadlocked 40 inch tires......this is our toy

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n255/toyotadon/gffdg4.jpg

tight spotts are ok too

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n255/toyotadon/gffdg11.jpg

my grizz is half the size of the rock i'm coming down....i drove up it on the way in...there's no way a quad will drive straight up a vertical 5 ft wall

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n255/toyotadon/Picture505-1.jpg

think a quad would drive through 4 ft of snow?....mine wont but my toyota will...all day long

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n255/toyotadon/rccomp070.jpg

or up hill in 3 ft sow hills breaking trail

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n255/toyotadon/uiojoijkoij031-1.jpg

i know this log wold stop my quad if i couldn't get around it

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n255/toyotadon/wheelin016.jpg

kinda steep for a quad....not for a truck though

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n255/toyotadon/canada202602028Small29.jpg

here's old blue on rock i could barley walk up

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n255/toyotadon/canada202782028Small29.jpg

and i wouldn't dare take any of my bikes on this...but in my cage of my truck i say no prob

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n255/toyotadon/DSCN4284M.jpg

i find quads are good for scouting....the grizz is a little slow compared to the truck and rough and a workout

and what about when the mud hole is covered in 4 ft of water?.....the truck dosn't care

Are those first pictures indicating you are climbing a creek? If so I hope it's not fish bearing and if not it probably drains into one that is.

I agree...There are some great pictures of quads with and without animals on them. I believe that is what this thread was intended for.

bigmike...great machines and great fun! I don't want to take away from your fun and hard work, but the heading on this thread should speak for itself. I don't think your intent was to ruffle any feathers, but it did so lets leave it at that and start posting more cool ATV pictures!

A few of the pics show wheelies. That's a good way to get hurt or killed. It's very easy to get used to bad habits and then do something dangerous out in the bush where the terrain is unforgiving. That would be a terrible way to end a hunt, maybe permanently.

Not to argue, but my buddy has a 1999 with a 6 banger and its gutless, with towing one trailer with only a quad in it he only can make the coq at 80 max (stock tires), so I highly doubt you can make it up the hill at 120, even unloaded thats a stretch for a yoti, I used to own lots of them, they are good trucks, but gutless, thats all.

A few shots of quads in action. These machines make the dragging job so much easier. Tell your wife she has to drag the next animal out and I guarantee that you will get your quad after that.

Take a look at the pictures of a hunter and his fancy quad by the last post Kitimat Killer actually making it up a snowy mountain with his quad. In the snow quite deep and steep. Good one, you see what a good driver can do with a fancy quad. Jel-better-now. Take a look see.
