Hey Guys,
I'm looking at buying a 14x16 wall tent from Davis on their February sale they have going right now. Sounds like a great deal and although I was looking to buy a 12x14 I'm not sure I can pass up on the deal to go with a 14x16 instead.
My only concern....is it ever much of a hinderance to have a 14x16 over a 12x14 if there are only 2 people using it? There will be several trips where there will be only 2 of us using it, but the option of having 4 of us will exist as well.
Any comments on this tent size? Seems like a heck of a deal and talking to Rick makes me feel its a great company to deal with....

As long as weight is not an issue, go with the bigger one, I have a 12x14 but with four guys it gets "cramped" after a couple of weeks.

14x16 is luxury for 2 guys and equally as comfortable for 3. Nice having room between the cots and space for whatever.
I have that tent from davis. Beauty.

Go with the 14x16, better too big than too small. I bought the same one from Davis Tent, just received it on Monday. I'm going to go cut the poles and set it up in the warehouse at work today. Then I can pretend I'm hunting. You can't beat the deals at Davis, I got the tent and stove delivered for less than it would have cost for the tent alone anywhere else I checked.

If you live near the coast don't forget to check the Gov't Surplus sales in Richmond. Many times they have wall tents that have barely been used and you can pick them up for a song. Last time I was there my buddy bought all they had (three of them that day) for $200 bucks a piece. He kept one for himself and sold the other two when he got home and made a tidy little profit on the deal and didn't skin anyone out by doing it either. Just something to keep in mind.

Cheers.

I have gone on late November deer hunt with 2 other guys and we stayed in a 14x24!! Lots of room...store all your gear, cook inside, hang clothes to dry etc. The only down side is you need a big wood stove and lots of firewood to keep a big tent like that heated.

Hello Gents,

Would you mind sharing where Davis is located. What kind of store is it.

Watch the Sun or Province paper. They used to advertise it in there. It used to be the firs Wednesday of every month. The province used to have their own on 88th is Surrey but I understand they now have it with the Feds. Don't know where they moved it to but it's still going, just gotta watch for the ad.

Cheers.

Why not try deluxe wall tents...they are the #1 sponsor on this site. Tell them the deal you are getting at Davis and see if they will match it. It's worth a try, if not then at least you gave them a shot at your business.

I agree with Tikka, also watch the quality from Davis, are you getting the same quality material and workmanship that you would from Deluxe?

OK here is the 14x16 Davis wall tent, I set it up in the warehouse at work. Sorry about the lousy picture quality, I used my cell phone. As far as I can tell it is excellent quality and a piece of cake to set up. If you are cutting poles yourself, make sure you give yourself a fair bit of time. I even put the stove in to see how it looked.

My first choice would be deluxe wall tents if I was buying a tent. Built right here in BC and the shipping is free in Canada. It would be a lot easier dealing with someone close to home if you had an issue.

I kind of like the screen door that deluxe has as well as the roll up door system to get it out of the way if needed.
Plus their inside frames fit their tents.

I've got a deluxe 14' x 20'. Absolutley some of the best money ever spent on hunting gear! I was going to get a 14' x 16' but decided to go for the larger tent. I'll never look back. The way I figured it, that extra 4' would account for all of our gear-totes bags ect... That's exactly what we do. At the back of the tent, everyone stacks their totes, bags, gun cases ect... In the end we are left with a 14' x 16' but with no clutter! Brilliant! It sleeps 4 like a cabin and I've had 5 guys which wasn't uncomfortable. As somebody else already said, it does require a large stove to heat it. I pack a heavy fisher house stove for now, but plan to build something lighter in the future. Overall, unless you plan to pack it in somewhere, bigger is better!!!! IMO anyways!

Does the Davis tent have a sodcloth? I can't tell from your photos.

Hey I'm not trying to deter anyone from purchasing from Deluxe, I would have prefered to buy from them, considering there locale. When the reins are tight on the spending you go for the bargains. I received top notch service from Davis and had a great conversation with the owner, they back up their product 100%.

So far I'm actually leaning on going the Deluxe route....

They have been good to talk to, and when you price out some of the extras, they are actually pretty darn close in price....

Perry has been great to talk to and I am leaning on keeping my business on this side of the border...

Good to see you went local... I was looking at buying form Davis as well but ened up getting a 10x12 from Deluxe. I haven't bought the frame yet but will in the coming months. Let us know how it works out.
